    Amazon.com Product Description

LEGO Rock Band merges two of the most popular video game franchises to deliver a unique family-friendly music experience that will take tweens, teens, families and gamers of all ages on a wild journey to rock stardom in order to "Build a Band and Rock the Universe." Combining the authentic multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the accessibility, customization and humor of LEGO games, LEGO Rock Band allows players to create their own unique rock star style and customize their own avatars, band members, roadies, and managers.

    LEGO Rock Band game logo
    Gameplay
Action in LEGO Rock Band is nearly identical to the familiar flow of Rock Band gameplay, only with a LEGO twist. Your goal is to run through a succession rock tinged family friendly song tracks with your band, consisting in multiplayer modes of up to four avatars in LEGO form controlled with guitar, bass guitar, microphone and drum controllers. The game features compatibility with most existing Rock Band and Guitar Hero instrument controllers for the appropriate platform. One of the fun LEGO influences is in the tablature flowing across the screen that directs your play. This is in the form of LEGO blocks color coded for each controller. As players successfully complete songs and rock challenges, they can collect LEGO 'studs,' with which they can customize their avatar and other in-game goodies in true LEGO Snap-On fashion. In addition, players can unlock additional content and collect amazing vehicles, which can transport their band from local gigs at rock clubs to epic stadium shows and even fantasy settings on Earth and beyond. The game contains a variety of play modes including Quickplay and Challenge, and will feature music both supplied on the game disc as well as downloadable content.

Great addition the franchise; includes some major new features5
First, let's clear one thing up and remember that you're playing along to colored notes with a fake plastic instrument, so I don't see how folks can get all upset that the LEGO tie-in makes the game more kid-like. It's charming!

This review is based on playing through the game on Hard lead guitar, with the Rock Band 1 song exports and about 200 DLC songs.

    Let's start with the cons:

    1. The tracklist is rather brief at 45-songs. You'll be repeating them a lot of you don't have DLC or the RB1 export. If you don't have it already, at least get the latter!
    2. No online play, but the randomness of Career Mode (see below) somewhat makes up for that.
    3. There appears to be a Crowd Noise volume setting bug, at least on the PS3 version. Despite lowering the crowd noise level to 0, I still hear it.

    PROS:

    1. Great overall presentation, with compelling and complete LEGO environments, cut scenes, and challenges.
    2. Career Mode is tons of fun in that the game continually prompts you to participate in new challenges and setlists, rather than returning you to a selection screen every time. So the element of surprise is always there, as is the opportunity to simply randomly enjoy the core tracks and the DLC/exports you own.
    3. The game makes good use of your DLC... for example, I had a surprise 5-song setlist thrown at me and all songs were drawn from my DLC.
    4. It's fun to buy bizarre LEGO objects and decorate your band space with them.
    5. Extensive stats are available for your band, including 5-starred songs, gold-starred songs, overall playing time, and many others.
    6. SAVED SETLISTS. The game has you create 3-song Albums and stores them for future play. These are essentially saved setlists, an oft-requested RB feature ever since RB2 came out. Furthermore, you can edit the Album setlists in your Band Office after you unlock them.
    7. SHORT SONGS. OK, this feature apparently applies only to the core game tracks, but if you're concerned that you'll be playing a bunch of songs that only half appeal to your over and over, you can use the Short Songs feature that knocks the track duration down to two minutes or so.
    8. Like The Beatles: Rock Band, LRB remembers gameplay settings such as Breakneck Speed, so *you* don't have to remember to turn it on every time a la Rock Band 2.

In summary, the game provides key new features in a fun, surprising environment that allows you to enjoy the new, included songs as well as your exports/DLC in a new way. If the price drops a bit more as seems to regularly happen with LEGO-themed games, that will just make an already great title a real bargain,.

    Rock band for all ages!5
I've been a fan of the Rock Band franchise since it started, and this latest inception is one of my favorites. While keeping a familiar "Rock Band" feel, this one is different enough to keep you playing for hours. There are so many fun parts to the game that Rock Band has missed in the past. One fun thing is the band challenges, where you take turns playing the song while the rest of the group can watch the video action going on behind it. For instance, at one point you have to clear out a haunted house by playing "Ghostbusters" as a team. When it's your turn to play, the rest of the group can watch the band run around in the background being chased by ghosts.

You also get the choice to customize your rock den with cool little additions you win during the gameplay. That's another thing that's fun: you get rewards all the time! New Lego minifigures, weird items, and new instruments are coming at you all the time.

The song list is a lot of fun. It's short, but you have some goodies like "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Kung Fu Fighting", and "We Will Rock You". The gameplay itself seems a lot easier than the usual "Rock Band" fare. I'm a casual player at best. I started playing on medium and was scoring 99 and 100% on every song, where I would usually score low 90's here and there in Rock Band (curse you, Metallica!). Also, the band player customization is a little weak. There aren't that many cool guitars to choose from (you start with 2 choices), though the drum sets are pretty fun. It doesn't have the customization of the usual "Rock Band", but it's still enough to give you an individual feel. As you buy more road crew members, you can choose from their parts as well.

All in all, this is a great buy and a whole lot of fun for everybody. It's a worthy addition to both the Lego franchise (after Lego Batman, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars) and Rock Band. Can't wait to see Lego Rock Band 2!

Worth it Just for the Songs5
The Lego-ized presentation of this game isn't to be everyone's cup of tea no matter how well done it is.

    BUT...

If you like the song list on here you should know that for an additional $10 you can download all of the tracks from for use on Rock Band 2, just as you could with the songs from Rock Band 1. So if you like the material but prefer the look & play style of RB2 then this is still worth the money.

    George Harrison's Guitar Done Justice4
The guitar is basically a RB2 guitar (with the same automatic calibration features and what not) created to look exactly like George Harrison's old Gretsch, and it looks fantastic. You can tell a careful amount of work was done to make sure it was replicated properly. All the buttons are solid and the strum bar work great. Although the price is a bit steep at $100, if you love The Beatles and the guitar style this is a good pickup.

    Worth it5
This is by far the best videogame peripheral I have ever used. The feel of the guitar is great. The buttons don't make that "clickity clack" that other guitars do, so it's not noisy and it feels very good when you're using it. The guitar itself is much larger than the normal GH or Rockband guitar, in fact it looks like a real guitar from across the room. All the chrome bits, the wood grain neck, and the inlays really make this a loving tribute to Mr. Harrison. If you love the Beatles and Rockband, I highly recommend it.

Rock Band Beatles - This Guitar Rocks5
The guitar is an excellent replica of George Harrison's Gretsch. The buttons and strum bar work great and the tilt mechanic works just like you would expect. This is a must have if you love the Beatles! My friends will be impressed.

    Great performing and looking guitar!5
This guitar is perfect for Rockband and Beatles. It is NOT painful at all, if you are a normal sized to tall person. If you have short Oompa-Lumpa arms, then who knows. All of my family have had no issues including the kids.

    Beatles Rickenbacher Controller5
This controller is great to use. It is quiet and very responsive when playing. I love it mainly because it is a replica of the real one John Lennon used, but it is still very comfortable.

The "dongle" for this guitar doesn't work and I can't find a replacement1
I purchased the Beatles Rock Band for a Christmas gift, and because my son-in-law is a big John Lennon fan, I ordered this guitar controller, as well. Unfortunately the "dongle" (never heard that word in my life until Christmas Day) is apparently defective, and I can't get a replacement as Amazon isn't carrying this product any longer.

However, the guitar looks fantastic, and the game - played with the other controllers - is tons of fun.

    Making a Great Game Better5
I've been playing this for 5 days now, after a year of playing RB1. To give credit where it's due, it looks like the team at Harmonix read every angry, outraged post about the first Rock Band and then addressed the problems.

    Gameplay:
-Bands no longer have a leader that must be present in order for the band to play. Any member of the band can play solo, and any character can play any instrument.
-You can now create an entire band and have them play with you ALL the time, giving you control over the look of it. You never need to have a random character model stand in. The might seem like a small thing but it makes a big difference. I don't know how many times my friends and I played, 3 of us looking like the Beatles, only to have some chick wrapped up like a mummy playing bass.
-You can be more in-depth in fleshing out your band, including designing a logo for them.

    Drums
-First of all the drums are wireless, which in itself is a big improvement. They have a rubberized coating on the pad now which cuts the noise from striking them in half, and that's more a dull thud than the sharp, obnoxious crack of the old drums. The bass pedal has been beefed up and should stand up to adult usage. I see some users complaining about tech problems with the drums, but mine have thus far been flawless.

    -Guitar
This is a huge improvement over the RB1 guitar. The start button has been put in a recess, making it much harder to accidentally pause the game while playing. The tilt sensor for going into overdrive works perfectly, the buttons are easier to use and the overall construction is sturdier. Best of all, it's wireless receiver has a USB port that you can plug the drums into, making it so that two instruments take up only one USB port on the console. This means that you can play as a full 4-person band without needing anything extra for your PS3. Again, a little thing that makes a big difference.

All the songs you downloaded for RB1 can be played on this game, and for a small fee you can also migrate all the songs from the RB1 disc onto your drive to be used with RB2. I think it's great that you don't have to leave any songs behind.

Bottom line: if you have RB1 you should definitely buy at least this game, even if you want to keep your old instruments. The expansion to your song library alone is well worth the price. But if you have the money to spend I think the improved instruments are worth buying.

    Fantastic5
After reading some of the negative press on RB2, especially the drums, my RB2 kit arrived and I had a non interrupted 2 hours of drumming joy.

    Positives.

The Guitar has self calibration, which I have found to be good enough that I have not had to do any calibration manually (this was a right pain to get right in RB1). Somewhere (I could not see them from a cursory inspection) is both a sound and light sensor which auto calibrates vs a test beat and test flash.

I was most worried that the drums would not work (i'm the drummer in my family/friends) especially after all forum activity. They worked absolutely fine for me last night. Really like the softer/bouncier feel to the pads (i had the RB1 drums with silencer pads - these will not be necessary with the RB2 drums)

Menu system navigation is much more logical, as is the intergration of solo and multiplayer.

Drum trainer is excellent - 50+ patterns to practice, some with very complex changes, all at 40-200 bpm...

Song choices so far seem to have some really interesting drum rhythms and sequences with much more variation than RB1.

Overall really happy. Just hope I don't get some of the issues mentioned on the forums.

Set is still worth buying, even for RB1 owners5
We have had both Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2 since their release dates, and I waited for a month of continuous gameplay so that I could make sure that I addressed some of the differences accurately.

    Gameplay:

The graphics have never been the high point of this game, and they are slightly improved, still artsy-cartoony and PS2-looking, but still cleverly done (e.g., they are not that crisp HD cartooniness of "Buzz!" but they'll do). Gameplay is much the same as Rock Band 1, with the MAJOR exception that you can start a tour yourself and your character can play any instrument (previously, your character was tied to one instrument and if you played alone, you generally had to play 2 instruments to go "on tour"). Harmonix added in online challenges ("battles") that can be played weekly and are available for free over the Playstation Network. The extra downloadable songs are generally inexpensive and bring a massive diversity of artists (from Underoath to Devo to Paramore, and by now, RB has amassed an amazing amount of downloadable songs (over 500+ to date).

One minor quibble is that the same problem exists in RB2 as RB1, namely, that you cannot delete tracks that you absolutely hate. Thus, you can still fail out in the middle of a challenge because RB has picked an "impossible" song as one of its randoms, and I wish they would do a better job with their randomizer. Also, when you play in "Quickplay" mode, you cannot pick your character, unlike RB1. So I end up with "Earl Stevens, Jr." a lot instead of my own character, which is disappointing when I don't want to go through a tour (basically because I can't remember "which town" has the music I want to play - e.g., where is "Everlong," again? The Amsterdam amphitheater?).

    Peripherals:

The drums are head over heels better than the old version. They are quieter, springier on rebound, have a metal reinforced pedal to slow down breakages (though the spring mechanism still makes your pedaling-leg tired after a session), and are just as easy to break down and put away. Wireless is awesome, but it is a DRAIN on your AA batteries (we went through the first set of 4 Energizers in less than 10 days), so invest in some rechargables. Love the fact that it has a port for fake cymbals (which don't change the gameplay, they just give you something different to hit on the greens/blues/reds).

The guitar is somewhat improved, with the Start button surrounded by a ridge of plastic, though if you've been playing on RB1, you may actually like that guitar better. The one in the special edition package does NOT come with a sunburst "finish" though - it's the same old Stratocaster body with a fake wood neck. The "auto-calibration" mechanism in the guitar (something missing from RB1) created some distressing results, so it was not as great of a feature as I initially hoped for, and we went back to manual calibration with our HDTV.

The mic is the same old, same old rebranded Logitech Vantage mic. But the Pelican and MadCatz upgraded versions aren't actually much better, so this mic will get you by.

    Warranty Support:

The equipment is much higher quality than the first batch. We returned at least two RB1 guitars on warranty with the first set and are returning our RB2 guitar for failing to recognize overdrive. However, EA Customer Support has been marvelous EVERY time, so I highly recommend purchasing without fear.

    Overall:
I was initially hesitant about replacing what I thought was an expensive RB1 set in the first place with a marginally more expensive RB2 set. However, I found the drum peripheral more than worth the expense - and after playing them, I was satisfied and did not see the need to cough up another $300 for the premium Ion. Conclusion? RB2 is just as fun as RB1, if not more. The track list is GREAT, the gameplay is slightly improved, and everyone loves it at parties. For casual gamers who just like to pick up a fake instrument every now and again, it's a must-buy.

    Two Words for Fun:5
    Rock Band.

It all started 8 years ago when I was introduced to Guitar Freaks at Gameworks in Tempe, AZ. The idea of playing a musical instrument as part of video game was addictive. Granted, the songs were original and limited, and the game bundle (offered only for the PS1 in Japan) was expensive, but Konami had the right idea.

Enter Guitar Hero. The original PS2 version, released two years ago, took the Guitar Freaks ingenuity and turned it into a product that appealed to the American audience. Those of us who had spent hundreds of dollars at Gameworks pounding songs on Guitar Freaks knew exactly what to do with the guitar and how to read the screen. I snagged one the week it came out and played to my heart's content. With subsequent releases of GHII and Rock of the 80's, I had enough music to last me for a couple of years. Last year Guitar Hero II became the high-demand Christmas item to give, breaking out of the die-hard "gamer" audience and into the average household (a feat very rarely accomplished by developers who publish games that require a unique controller).

Harmonix, the developer for Rock Band, has their experience with successful rhythm-based games. Frequency, Amplitude, Karaoke Revolution and Guitar Hero all won the hearts of audiences and game reviewers. With the success of these games, their partnership with MTV Music to create Rock Band is ingenious and exciting. Who else would be better suited than MTV to convince musicians and music publishers to contribute to this project? And what more brilliant way could any band market themselves? They provide a single hit recording which is then mass distributed through a video game then played over and over by the fans that made the song a hit to begin with - no musician or band can go wrong.

And what about the game itself? Addictive. Energetic. Hypnotic. Entertaining. Fun.

Here are some real issues: price. The special edition bundle complete with the game, drum set, wireless guitar/bass and microphone is retailing for $169.99. It's expensive and a lot of money to spend on one video game. The nice thing is the guitar controller can be used to play Guitar Hero; however, it is still a lot of money for one game.

Another issue: system calibration. Some HD televisions and HD sound systems are causing a slight delay in game play, the source of a lot of frustration. There is a very limited and weak calibration setting in the game but it doesn't solve all the problems.

Another issue: the controllers themselves. Last night I spent many hours acquainting myself with the drum kit and got frustrated when cymbal crashes did not land correct. A successful hit has to be nearly dead center of the pad itself and that is not realistic when landing a cymbal crash. It is also frustrating that the pads do not react very well to snare rolls, a necessity in a drummer's repertoire. Anybody with actual drumming experience will find this process frustrating and will probably run back to their real drums for solace and comfort ("I can play drums, I can!").

However, all games face issues and luckily with time they can be fixed. Eventually, the price in the game will fall, great for those on budgets. System calibration will improve as game updates are pushed through online (a wonderful yet tedious aspect of the PS3/XBOX 360). The controllers themselves will improve with further technology and once third party developers get the thumbs up from Sony/Microsoft, they will come out with all sorts of accessories and equipment that will enhance and improve game play.

    I can't wait.

Complaints aside (come on - we all have them), this game is everything fun. It is innovative and creative and never-ending. Tired of guitar? Try vocals. Beat the drums? Try bass. And the best part - find a band online or invite friends and have a ball. You will, you will spend hours and hours escaping into the great fantasy of being in a rock band. Guitar Hero put an air guitar in our hands, Rock Band gives you the rest. Expensive, yes. System bugs, yes. Controller delay, yes.

Worth it all, absolutely. And if you're still unsure, check out any big-box electronics store or video game retailer and play the demo. Better yet, check out the local video game retailer for Rock Band competitions (they do have them) and try it for yourself. You will love it.

Excellent Drum Kit, disappointing guitar controller3
I, like most fans of the Guitar Hero series, have been anticipating the arrival of this game since I first learned of its development back in July. When I first saw the photos of the guitar controller I became ecstatic. It looked like the guitar controller I have always wanted since I actually own a real Stratocaster made to the Eric Clapton "Blackie" design. The controller looks almost exactly like my real guitar! So with that combined with the fact that the game was created by the original development team fir Guitar Hero I and II, Needless to say I was quivering with anticipation.

The is no doubt that the guitar gameplay is very similar to the Guitar Hero series. For some reason though, I seem to have a harder time focusing on the notes in Rock Band since they are little rectangles instead of fat circles like in GH. But the song list is amazing and that certainly makes up for some cons. However there is one thing I cannot get over:

The Guitar controller sucks. There. I said it. The construction of the unit is just the cheapest of cheap plastic. When you are playing it, you feel as though you have to be careful not to break it. Yeah, the buttons are designed better in my opinion but the plastic actually bends under minimal pressure. WTF!?!?! And while I was excited about the buttons on the lower fretboard for solos, they are almost too narrow to be played by average adult hands. So now I will find myself plugging in my GH3 controller for Rock Band.
But there is a huge plus side: The drums. They are just incredibly fun to play. And while they may not be built like real drums but rather electonic drumpad abominations from the 1980's they seem as though they can stand up to some abuse. They are pretty hard to rock out to on the advanced levels making them a fun and addicting challenge. I have a good friend who is a drummer and he picked them up and did amazing on his first go do they are pretty realistic as you can get. The developers claim that if you can play the drums on expert level on the game than you are basically playing drums for real. Pretty neat.
The mic. I think this is alright. Works well but seems to almost force you to not sing in your natural singing voice. Instead they really want you to sound like the person singing the original song. Hard to sing like Roger Daultry one song and then switch to Billy Corgan the next. This feature seems to be almost designed for parties.
All in all a solid game. The song list is great and does not disappoint. Like I said, I just found the guitar controller and game play to be a letdown. At least the drums are great. But hey, you may feel differently. Have fun with it.

    Really Rock Out Loud4
When it comes to video games in the shape of rhythm, there have been some of them that really have dominated the past several years like Dance Dance Revolution and singing games like Singstar for the Playstation 2. nevertheless, the one big hit that makes everyone want to rock out loud this past year had been the success of Activision's Guitar Hero series. Although there has been so much great success of the game series, many other have wanted to take the gameplay a bit step further by adding the beat of drums, and a hint of a mighty voice from a microphone for one rocking video game that takes it a much more hyped step further, and that adds into Rock Band.

Rock Band, for the Playstation 3, takes the excitement we've seen from music franchises like Guitar Hero, and bring more elements of rock by adding drums, and a microphone, by bringing the new element of rock to gameplay. That can also be said with the songs that you can unlock and choose from. The music you can jam too also takes it a bit higher, by bringing in artists that haven't yet seen the light from Guitar Hero in any of the games, and that adds onto the gameplay well. The graphics work very well, but the gameplay is in the songs as you jam to classics from R.E.M. on their 1988 hit Orange Crush, to rock gods like The Rolling Stones classic Gimme Shelter, and Bon Jovi with their 80's anthem Wanted Dead Or Alive. There are also cherrished hits from The Red Hot Chili Peppers with their 2005 hit Dani California, and the Foo Fighters guilty pleasure Learn To Fly. There are also other recent guilty pleasures like OK Go and Here It Goes Again, and Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl to play with here as well. The gameplay is simple to pick up for multiplayer action, or solo mode, as you conquer solo tour mode, or the multiplayer action gameplay of Band World Tour Mode.

The game comes with all the essentials you need from a guitar, a drum kit, and even a microphone, so you can jam anyway you simply desire to all your favorite songs, which adds well into the gameplay. Sadly though, there is one big disadvantage to the game, and that is the price. With the price rounding to over $200 for the entire gameplay kit, it may bring down the feeling fo being everywhere to the pockets, but as a party game, it jams in the multiplayer action very well into the game, by bringing the element of fun to the game.

All in all, Rock Band is a really great concept for those who've simply grown tired of Guitar Hero after awhile. It is a great game to rock with you and your friends whether it is online by downloading extras, or just wanting to practice on your beats, Rock Band works great as a must have for your Playstation 3, and brings in the kind of muscle the system has lagged behind from competeition from the Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. There is no other way to say it but Rock Band Rocks On!!!

Excellent controller with a bad reputation.5
When Rock Band rolled out last November, Harmonix/EA had some quality control problems with the first wave or two of guitar controllers. Being an early adopter, I lived through these issues and was rather frustrated that this much-anticipated game couldn't deliver on its promise.

It's April, now, and the separate guitar controller is finally available.

So, should you get it, or will you end up sending it off for repair, or returning it, or just plain smashing it out of frustration?

The first thing to address is the quality of the controller. It gets bashed a lot for the one serious defect the first batch of controllers had: the strum bar on many, many of them broke after just a few hours use.

Obviously, that's unacceptable, and Harmonix and EA both knew that. They jumped on the problem with both feet and by the end of January, virtually everyone who had problems finally had a controller in hand that wasn't defective.

So let's put that on the shelf. It's in the past now: I have two of these controllers and they both work as well as or better than any GH controller I ever had.

Let's address the real question: is this a controller you want to play with?

It's decidedly different from every Red Octane GH controller, to be sure, so if you're a big fan of the GH controllers, you will almost certainly not like this controller the first time you pick it up. Unless you're an absolute creature of habit, my suggestion is to give it some time: play with it for a few weeks, recognizing that your performance may actually degrade a bit while you get accustomed to the controller.

    * * *

Here are the most obvious differences that affect performance:

    1. The neck of the Rock Band controller is longer and thinner than the GH controllers. It feels more like a real guitar, which encourages you to position your hand more like you would on a real guitar. For me, this was a big plus, but I have a friend who much preferred the thicker neck of the more toy-like GH controller.

    2. The fret buttons are flush with the neck and nestled directly next to one another, with each button being as wide as the distance between two frets on an actual guitar. The result, again, is that your hand is positioned more like it would be on a real guitar. The touch of the buttons is as good or better than the best of the GH controllers, but on some units, they produce a loud clacking sound. I've played with some that are loud and some that are quiet, and while it's a bit annoying, it's not a game-breaker.

When playing last night, I really felt the smoothness that the fret button design allows: I barely felt my fingers pressing the buttons, yet I was flying through song after song on Expert with better scores than I could ever have imagined getting when I played Guitar Hero.

    3. This is the biggie, the game-breaker for most GH players: the strum bar. It all comes down to whether you like the click of the GH controllers or not. A working strum bar on the RB controller is a wonderful thing, frankly. Again, it was designed to feel more like playing a guitar or bass, and as a bass player myself, I'm impressed with the feel...you can really "twang" the bar like a string. The strum bar has a lot more touch than most people realize. Sure, in the end, it's still a switch that either connects or doesn't, but it doesn't have that "all-or-nothing" feel of the GH strum. I love this softer touch...it really allows for that casual/careless rock star feel that comes when you only have a few notes to play during an extended drum solo.

Yes, it feels very different from the GH bar. Learning to alt-strum (that is, alternating between up-strum and down-strum) with this controller is trickier and takes some patience, but once you've got it down, it's every bit as precise as it is with the GH strum bar.

Of course, a huge complaint is that this strum bar doesn't have the click that some people need as a reassurance that they've actually strummed.

I hate the click, myself. It destroys the illusion that I'm playing an instrument rather than a video game. "Match the clicking of your controller to the brightly colored dots!" No thanks.

    * * *

I'll admit that moving from a Red Octane GH controller to the Rock Band Strat takes some getting used to, but it's absolutely worth the effort.

If you've never played a GH game before and you're interested in Rock Band, I'd ignore what anyone says about the comparisons between the two controllers: one is not objectively better than the other, and if you learn on the Strat, you'll probably find the GH controllers to be the annoying ones.

For me, games like this are all about feeling like you're actually playing a song, even though you know you're not. The more they can make me feel like this plastic thing is a real guitar, the happier I'll be.

The real measure of this controller for me is how much more I enjoy playing guitar-based games with it than I did with the GH controllers. As a result, my game has improved tremendously over what it was after months of Guitar Hero.

    Strum Like Mush2
Nice looking guitar and everything felt and worked good except for the strum bar. That felt very soft like mush and very slow acting. I know why its like that as its a new design since being sold seperately. I took apart the guitar and the strum bar plastic piece rides on actual foam pieces and hits more foam on each side at max travel. Had to return it.

    Bad batch of wireless guitar4
I didn't purchase mine from Amazon, but from gamestop store.
First one I got, it will not sense me have tilted the guitar, and not matter how hard I try to tilted it, it will go into overdrive mode, I have to press "select" button to use it.
Returned, and got another one. This time, when I tilted it, it does go into overdrive, but not as sensitive as the one that came with the whole package. The stock one will go into overdrive if it senses me slightly going upward. This one I have to do it hard, or maybe twice or three times before it would go into overdrive, it is kind of frustrating, but just to share with you guys the experience that I had.

    PS3 Rock Band5
I bought this game solely for the purpose of downloading the songs for Rock Band 2 usage. You dont have to keep the original Rock Band after the songs have been downloaded. I did not play much of the game, but it appeared to be fine. It is fun to play with friends and use the various instruments.

    Rock On Witcha Bad Self!5
Rock Band for the PS3 is everything you'd expect a rhythm game with the word "rock" in it to be. If you're at all familiar with the Guitar Hero series of video games, then you pretty much know what this is all about. The bonus to getting this game is that you can play with a drummer, bassist, and a vocalist in addition to the regular lead guitar. My experience with this game is solely from the guitarist perspective, so I can't comment on the functionality of the other instruments, but what I can say is that this game is addictive and pure fun.

Much like Guitar Hero, the screen displays a scrolling track with colored dots that correspond to the particular fret on your guitar (I'm using the Harmonix Fender guitar that comes with the Special Edition). Your job is to press the correct fret button and strum in time with the music. Seems simple, right? Well, it is if you're playing on the easy mode, but it gets much more difficult as you progress through the higher difficulty levels.

The better you do, the higher your score. The better your score, the more money you can earn from your "gig". You can then purchase various items in the Rock Band store, such as clothing, instruments, and jewelry. That's right. You can customize your virtual guitar playing character on screen (hair style, facial hair, tattoos, clothing, body style, you name it).

The game isn't meant to be a graphical powerhouse, but it looks alright. No, the graphics don't look as good as Uncharted or Metal Gear Solid 4, but they get the job done. The sound quality is pretty good. Most songs that come with the game are performed by the original artists (e.g. Nirvana, The Pixies, Nine Inch Nails). There are a few (e.g. Mississippi Queen) that are performed by some no name band, but that doesn't really detract from the fun. You can purchase lots of extra tracks through the Playstation Network for $1.99 each.

The game has several modes. You can go "on tour" and play several venues the world over. You can also do a tutorial to master various playing techniques. There is a multiplayer component where you can go head to head with other players online (I haven't tried that yet). You can go solo or add any combination of band mates you like (singer, drummer, etc.).

While playing you might be surprised just how much the game makes you wanna rock out. I can't stop swaying to the music, tapping my foot, and grimacing while banging out those wah wahs. It really is a blast, so rock on witcha bad self!

    Great Music5
I bought this just to download and upload the music from Rockband to Rockband 2. Love the Rockband Games and accessories.
