For far too long, the bullies of Bullworth Academy have been stealing lunch money and making life miserable for students. For far too long, you've taken a back seat as nerds were taunted and put on display. And for far too long nobody has put the bullies in their place. Finally, the time for sweet revenge is here! The Rockstar tradition of groundbreaking, original gameplay and humorous tongue-in-cheek storytelling invades an entirely new setting: the schoolyard. Life at the academy
The story follows Jimmy Hopkins, a teenager who's been expelled from every school he's ever attended. Left to fend for himself after his mother abandons him at Bullworth to go on her fifth honeymoon, Jimmy has a whole year at Bullworth ahead of him, working his way up the social ladder of this demented institution of supposed learning, standing up for what he thinks is right and taking on the liars, cheats and snobs who are the most popular members of the student body and faculty. If Jimmy can survive the school year and outsmart his rivals, he could rule the school.

Using the "living sandbox" game style similar to Rockstar's previous titles, players complete goals and experiment with items in the game world. A rival may dare you to drop a firecracker into a toilet or scare some sense into the kid who took your lunch money. Don't spend too much time roaming the halls, however, as you may actually be punished for skipping out on important classes. Choices you make outside of school will also impact how friends and foes in the school view you after you buy new clothes and sport a new haircut.

    Mini games abound
Bullworth Academy pride themselves in rigidly sticking to the curriculum at all times, to this end consistent truancy will result in punishment. The esteemed staff of the Academy, though occasionally questionable in their recreational habits, ensure that the pupils have a firm grounding in the key academic subjects. Alongside the strict principals of loyalty, trust and ruthless ambition that are ingrained in every pupil in the academy by the principal Dr Crabblesnitch, core subjects include English, Gym, Shop Class, Photography, Art and Chemistry. Each subject comprises a series of five tests to be passed with flying colors. Of course on passing each test a due reward, in the form of gameplay features will be earned by the player. Bullworth Academy's educational system is provided through a host of exciting and innovative mini games lovingly developed by Rockstar Vancouver to accompany the main storyline of Bully.

    Do a double clique
Just like any other crumbling prep school, Bullworth Academy has its cliques. You'll have to choose whether to side with football jocks, well-dressed preppies, or try to turn them against each other while you laugh at the antics with your fellow greasers. Clique membership becomes even more exciting as your clique rises to the head of the class- making a name for themselves and striking fear into the hearts of those who might cross you. Don't be surprised if some cliques offer up some surprises, as those bug-eyed nerds just may have the scientific know how to create weaponry that can keep those bullies at bay.

Ready yourself for a hilarious return to campus living with Bully, the outrageously funny debut title from Rockstar Vancouver, available exclusively for PlayStation2 computer entertainment system.

The PS2's very own version of "The Catcher in the Rye"5
Bully may very well be one of the most controversial games of all time simply based on the fact that Rockstar made it. With only a name to their game, it was turning heads. People feared the worst. Mostly that the game would be as violent as Grand Theft Auto, but in a high school setting.

Let me set some minds at ease. There are no guns. The game doesn't even have any blood. Also, you can't kill anyone. Lastly, violence is rather discouraged.

You do not play the Bully. Instead you assume the role of Jimmy Hopkins, a boy trying to survive at Bullworth Academy. He's basically your run of the mill student. Your task inside the school is the same as they are for just about every student in high school. Pass your classes and stay out of trouble. Going to class actually is enforced for a time. Your classes are mini-games that you'll play. You're allowed to try and ditch class but there are consequences for not going. However, in this game you'll want to go to class just because participating in said class is actually fun, and can improve your skills. The mini games are fun and addictive. After a while it's no longer enforced, which I actually found rather sad. The aspect of going to class doesn't get nearly enough attention, but the mechanic works.

Outside of class, however, is where the game really begins to shine. If you're familiar with the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto, then you'll easily adapt to Bully. For starters, each and every student at Bullworth Academy has a unique personality. You'll make friends and you'll make enemies. The missions are fun and quite an experience. The game is original. Even better, the story sequences are filled to the brim with humor, quite simply it's one of the funniest games I've played.

In addition, you can also venture outside of the school. Jimmy can get a job to help him buy food and other things, and he's able to help people around town do some of their errands and chores as well. You'll also be able to date, go play some arcade games and plenty more. All the things most high school students do.

Jimmy isn't without a mischief. He's got a slingshot, a bat and a few other things he can use. Again, you can't kill anyone with these things, and eventually the objects will break anyway. Besides, if you beat up a kid, you have to serve detention. Part of the point of the game really is staying out of trouble.

The game also takes on a more realistic feel. There's a clock in the corner that shows you what time it is. If you're caught wandering around the school after hours there are consequences. If you stay out too late, you'll actually get tired and fall asleep.

The game looks and sounds brilliant. Fantastic voice acting really brings the story to life. The game also has some great visuals. The school and environments look astonishing.

Bully is a great game to be sure. It's almost like an interactive teenage drama come to life. A lot of the game is humorous and fun. But most importantly, it isn't Grand Theft Auto and it does stand on its own.

School Days Aren't Always Fun and Happy5
People can pick on the Rockstar group for their Grand Theft Auto series, but I actually found the Bully game much more redeeming. You're a schoolboy taking on the stereotypical cliques.

It's pretty clear why you're a depressed teenage boy when the game starts. Apparently your dad has died, and your mom has remarried an elderly, grumpy old man who wants you out of the picture. Your mom is more than happy to dump you off at a stay-all-year school while she goes off with Mr. Moneybucks.

On top of that, the school officials are pretty nasty to you right from the start. Hogwarts this is not! Then as you go into the run-down dorm, other kids start beating up on you! It's time for you to stand up for yourself and make a stand.

There are various groups of kids in this school - the nerds, the jocks, the greasers and the preppies. Activities you do raise or lower your respect level with each group. You have to go to class too - and be there on time! If you're able to manage your schedule properly, you can participate in some pretty fun mini-games (the word scramble can be challenging!) to earn you new skills.

There are girls to court, and usually they want a specific item. So you have numerous quests to go on. The bully activities range from escorting a nerd safely to his locker, to running races and protecting yourself from attacks. You get clothing along the way, and can customize your look (within school regulations, of course).

It's a bit depressing, sometimes, to see how these mid-teen guys treat each other, but this does actually happen in many schools. I'm sure pretty much every person who was once a teen can name the cliques that existed in their school.

The graphics are rather good for a PS2, and the sounds, while again a bit depressing for a teen environment, work well with the game too. On one hand I can not really like the swearing in the game, but certain teens do in fact swear far worse than this game does!

I'd even say this is more like Fable than other Grand Theft Autos, with some of the ways that you can choose how you react in situations.

This game won't be enjoyed by people who are squeamish about violence - it does, after all, involve teen guys all bashing each other for very inane reasons. It also involves a lot of bullying - as you might imagine. Still, if you can deal with those issues, you'll find a really involving game that might actually make you think about how to treat others well.

After all is said and done...its worth the price of admission.5
After having played through a large portion of Bully, I can say this: Though its gameplay style may mimic other Rockstar titles (mainly the Grand Theft Auto series), Bully stands out on its own with many tweaks, themes, options, and fun to warrant itself as a standalone game worthy of praise, and not just another clone.

And yes, though the game was initially controversial, those same morons who continue to seek out the gaming industry for all the blame of messed up children who were going to do something bad either having the game or not (think of all the music, movies, and real life situations that include violence and sexual themes, etc.)...they came after Bully strictly because of the title and theme. The FACT is however, you'll find the games protagonist far from a Bully (this is nowhere near beating up hookers with a baseball bat, instead think of maybe a Bart Simpson with a little more edge.), and the title is a bit misleading...anyhow...

Even though the PS2 is on its last wheels, Bully manages to dredge up some very decent graphics for this title. Ambient sounds, music, and atmosphere are some of the best around, with tons of characters always surprising you with something new that may catch your ear. Whats really great about this game is that (and not to compare to the GTA series, but its inevitable)there seems to be a heavier emphasis on interaction with objects. You can break into certain lockers, pick up a large variety of objects and even climb trees, pull fire alarms etc. even when not in a mission.

I really enjoyed the missions overall, they gave a great sense of being in the schoolyard with its many cliques and funny themes. Lots of missions and side quests will keep you entertained for hours...appealing to both casual folks who may just want to finish the storyline or those who obsess on getting the game to 100% completion.

Most folks won't get that far, but its nice to know that theres always something you can do and come back to the game for if you get tired of it anytime soon. It may not be the absolute groundbreaking title you were thinking of, but its definitley a great game. If you enjoy the open ended feeling of 'free in a sandbox' style, or perhaps want a diversion from the same old GTA theme, pick it up and give Bully a shot.

    Game Informer Review

Bringing PC titles to the PS2 never seems to work out quite right; it's to developer Remedy's credit that The Fall of Max Payne plays as well as it does, especially considering the graphical sophistication of the title. It's no secret that this doesn't look as good as its bigger brothers, but it can certainly stand up to against anything else on this console.

Though the title does maintain a stable number of frames per second, it's just not a very high number. The only times it really felt smooth were when I was in a small room with no other characters present – it was a fairly bumpy ride pretty much everywhere else. Tack on the abysmal load times and three-menu-deep saves, and you've got a significantly slower play than can be found elsewhere.

On the plus side, Max 2 is still an excellent game. All the content is still there, and when you're in the zone capping thugs, you tend not to notice a dropped frame here and there. Also, the control is about as good as it gets – rarely did I yearn for the precision of my mouse.

If you have access to one of the more powerful platforms, keep in mind that Max Payne 2 is a much smoother experience when backed up by some high-end electronics; but, if that's not an option, by all means get this.

    Concept:
Hey, let's pretend that the PS2 can run Max Payne!

    Graphics:
There is no comparison to the Xbox version, much less the PC

    Sound:
Freakin' interstellar. Some of the best sound design around

    Playability:
Holding down R3 to speed up turning is a great addition that I'd like to see copied in every single title with analog view control

    Entertainment:
Still worth playing, but definitely of a lesser caliber than the other two releases

    Replay:
    Moderate

    Rated: 8 out of 10

    2nd Opinion:
Playing this port Max Payne 2 is like seeing a picture of Biggie Smalls wearing Naomi Campbell's bikini – you've got to appreciate the effort that went into fitting everything in, but the results are not pretty. Rockstar claimed that there would be more effort going into the PlayStation 2 port this time around. I only wish I could claim that the work paid off. Yes, it looks better than the horrid PS2 version of the original, but still does not come close to reaching the level of excellence achieved on the PC or Xbox. The primary flaws are mostly visual, everything from the poor water and explosive effects to the dreary texturing to the weird, angular character models. Also, the choppy framerate really diminishes the thrill of the jump-and-shoot action. Even worse, the game loads too often and too slowly. Sorry, Max, but maybe you weren't meant for PlayStation 2.

    Customer Reviews

Stylishly Honorable to the Action Platform4
This is merely an expectation that the PS2 will undoubtedly astound gamers as the PC version has done to me.

I was foreign to the world of Max Payne. Because I was not exposed to the frenzy of the detective's game back in 2001, I felt nonchalant towards the coming sequel. Now that I have experienced the sequel, I must profess that I have been stunned, then mesmerized, and all the more thrilled to have this game land on my laptop. Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne is a barrage of devilish quality saturating all through the game and then some. From the gutsy gameplay to the direction of the story, this game falls into a certain pizzazz of stylish coolness.

I can crack the code as to why the first game ignited a stir. An action game has never felt so empowered to be reckoned as the high octave blast that is Max Payne 2. Playing as a pessimistic detective, you must blaze through he dark, gritty streets of New York city. The story alone is topnotch suspense bundled with extraordinary twists and turns that'll have you gasping throughout your day. Driven by the story, the game's focal highlight is the gameplay's Bullet Time implementation. Heck, Max Payne is one of those games that is truly augmented by the graphics and sheer physics of the environment. With eye-candy in every so direction, it's a joy to shoot baddies with a multitude of weapons. Further adding to the bountiful fun, is the Havok engine which has the environment fully interactive. There's also rag-doll effects where spectacular combat scenes are distilled in slow-motion scenes and the best part is your in control. The gist of Max Payne 2 is the more baddies you gun down, the faster Payne is in a slow-motioned surrounding. With the environment flinging all over the screen and the slow motion of the game setting in, it's a delight to control this gem again and again.

Payne romps through New York City at its absolute darkest. As you go guns-a-blazing, you'll notice the graphical powerhouse. Each nook and cranny in the game is a stellar high point. What hit's the stride even more is the detailed photo realistic textures and the maw-gaping lighting effects. Like the story, the graphics stand on its own. A spectacular soundtrack kicks in to add to the already fascinating atmosphere. There are plenty of compulsive tracks, but the best part of the audio derives from the firefights where the signature sound of Payne's heart gallops as enemy gunfire sounds distorted. Plus, the voiceovers are good and suit the personality of Payne. The gritty comic book scenes heavily attribute to the overall atmosphere of the astounding game. You can easily tell that the makers of the game, have put sweat and effort into this wet-dream-come-true production.

The first game has been known to be very short, and the second one follows suit. Under the circumstances, its honest to say that fans of this game will not go out aching. This game is really something, but does leave the gamer wanting much more. Aside from that quibble, the stunning action warrants a purchase. Max Payne 2: the Fall of Max Payne is stylishly honorable to the action gaming platform.

Almost as great as the first!5
Pros: Great guns, great graphics, great sound, great level design, and easy to pick up, play, and save games.
Cons: Only half as good as the first game (But that's still a great game!). Story is rough and the dream sequences are just a break in the action and not as good as the blood trail levels in the first one.

Other than that, there's not much to complain about in this game. Some gamers may think it's too easy, but the harder levels are unlocked after you do the first run through, which is fine by me. What the game lacks in AI, it more than makes up in quantity of action packed levels with tons of bad guys to shoot at. Game was very addictive and I had a hard time putting the controller down. Even for a violent game, this was the perfect early x-mas present.

    Sometimes a great story can't save a game...3
This is a continuation of the original Max Payne story, the film noir (or comic film noir) tale of a hard-bitten investigator with a taste for shooting his opponents. In the course of the first tale, Max loses his family, his job, and his self-respect. Now, in this episode, Payne confronts his own ghosts as he gets caught up in a gang conflict, crooked cops, and a hard fall for the woman who helped ruin his life.

The game unfolds using short cut-scenes and comic book style illustrations to provide the narrative. From a purely artistic viewpoint, the game deserves high grades. The settings are highly detailed, including a grotesque funhouse and a Washington manor house among other settings. Levels are maze-like and sometimes the clues are subtle. Not so subtle is the script, which has a style somewhere between Mickey Spillane and a sledgehammer. Payne's narration is bitter, full of the knowledge that everything must die.

The initial reception of this game was only slightly less than ecstatic. I'm not normally a fan of pure shooters, but I decided that this one was one to try out. What I discovered is that the PS2 implementation (I can't speak for the PC or Xbox versions) left a lot to be desired. Control over the characters is quirky at best. The player has no useful control over Payne's jumping ability - getting Payne to jump out a window to a small ledge just below it results in a low of reloading and cursing. Turns are extremely slow, resulting in all kinds of maneuvers to avoid having to turn when in a full battle.

The end result is that the game failed to capture my full attention - there never came that magic moment when I lost consciousness of the controller. It was the enemy, not the geek trying to unload an AK-47 at me. I just finished playing Prince of Persia, so I was acutely aware of what a game could do, and The Fall of Max Payne simply fell too short of the target. Hopefully, this is the result of a poor port of the game from the PC version. For those that don't have PC's to play on, I would wait a bit for the price to drop.

    Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition.....5
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition ups the ante from the last game with more insane speed, 8-player online competition and the best vehicle customization ever seen in a video game to date. You can drive muscle cars, choppers, and more & trick them out in the latest rims, trims, and upgrades just like in the pages of DUB Magazine. The level of detail dedicated to your car's look and feel is simply amazing. The race editor is even better this time around. The thing I love most is getting to race in Atlanta, San Diego, and Detroit.

My biggest gripe, however, is the loading times. Seems like it takes forever to get into a race. I am speaking of the PS2 version, of course, not the PSP version(which is even worse). Once getting past that; this game, literally, rocks hard.

I'm a huge fan of Need for Speed Underground and love both of the games in that respective series right now but, after playing MC3:Dub Edition, Need for Speed Underground is going to have to work even harder impressing me. I tip my hat to Rockstar North, they did a dadgummed awesome job with this edition. I love it!

    Best Game Ever!!!!!!5
This is really the best game ever. I own both Need For Speed Underground 2 and Midnight Club 2 and this out matches Need For Speed any day. It's more fun, has more cars, bigger tracks, free roam, better hydraulics, better jumps, and you can crash into buildings and destroy any surroundings such as trees, poles, and garbage cans. The customization is amazing! You can paint the car and its trims and trims in any colour for free unless you pay for custom, you could make the rims bigger or smaller for free aswell as the tires, wheel base, and height, you could chop the top, put wheelie bars, air hood, air bags, and more! This game is also online up to eight players and has fun games such as tag and capture the flag.

Get this game! It is better than NFSU2, Burnout 3, and Street Racing Syndacate. If you can get this and Gran Turismo 4, they are both great games.

    Pros:
    Unlimited Customization
    60 licensed cars
3 real big completely free roaming cities (Atlanta, San Diago, and Detroit)
6 types of vehicles to choose from (Bikes, Suv's/Pickups, Exotic Cars, Import Cars, Luxury Sedans, Classics)
New special move for each type of vehicle
    And More
You can chat to people while racing

    Cons:
There are none except you can't see other peoples cars in online mode unless you are racing

    EXTREME AND COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!5
This has got to be the best street racing game that was ever created! Do you want to know why?

This game has over 60 cars which include CLASSICS/MUSCLES, EXOTICS, IMPORT TUNERS, LUXURY SEDANS, SUV'S/TRUCKS, CHOPPERS, and SPORT BIKES! And here are some of the best cars in each class: CLASSICS/MUSCLES-Pontiac'70 GTO, EXOTICS-Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR, IMPORT TUNERS-Dodge Viper GTS R, LUXURY SEDANS-Cadillac Sixteen, SUV'S/TRUCKS-Hummer H2, CHOPPERS-HM Skully, and SPORT BIKES-Ducati 999R!

Another thing about this game is that it has 3 real open cities which include SAN DIEGO, ATLANTA, and DETROIT, and these cities are really huge, and filled with nice, realistic enviorments from the real-life cities with traffic easy to dodge through!

There are lots of modes in this game which include: Career Mode(Where you get money and prize cars as you go along here),Arcade Mode (Where you street race for fun without risking your reputation in street racing), Race Editor (Where you can create your own race and really test it in all 3 cities), Networking (Where you race with other players from other places), and Options (Where you can change and add some stuff to the game!

This game also lets you customize your car your way from a large range of choices like PERFORMANCE SHOP (Where you can upgrade you car's performants), COLOR SHOP (Where you can chage the color of every bit of your car), BODY SHOP (Where you can change the car's body), and DETAIL SHOP (Where you can add nice details to your car!

Here are some other stuff this game includes: Choice of time of day (not available in Career mode), choice of type of weather (not available in career mode), how much players (Maximum of 2 players and not available in career mode), great music which includes RAP, ROCK/POP, and THECNO, and Cheat Codes to help you through this game!

Here are some other games that are related to MIDNIGHT CLUB 3 DUB EDITION, but not as good: L.A. Rush, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2, Need for Sped Underground, Need for Speed Underground 2, Need for Speed Most Wamted, Crazy Taxi, Gran Turismo 3, Gran Turismo 4, Burnout Revenge, and Ridge Rider.

Seriously, this game is really the best out there with so much choices and new stuff, and much better than the other 2 previous editions! And trust me, you're going to love this game as much as I do and love it more than other street racing games out there too!

    An above average game4
Well I won't say that the load times are short because they aren't as you all know from reading every other review. They are the longest of any PSP game. But the game is very good. Frame rates aren't the greatest while racing but very good while just 'cruising' the city. The races are easier to win than NFS:Rivals and that makes this the BETTER game. NFS makes it almost impossible to win races as they get harder. NFS AI makes almost no mistakes which is not realistic as nobody is perfect. This game is a whole lot of fun. The first city, "San Diego" has loads and loads of streets. The city isn't exactly like the real San Diego but many things are there like Petco park, Convention center and railed vehicles and the rollercoaster at Mission Bay. San Diego is my favorite city in the US!
I highly recommend this game even at the higher cost of $50. Many hours of programming went into the game at Rockstar which you have to give them credit for the long hours the workers had to endure to create this game. Rockstar- You Rock! Thanks for keeping us intertained!

    Awesome Game!!5
Midnight Club 3 is an awesome game. The partnership with DUB Magazine made the game a lot better. You can customize pretty much any part on the car, from the lisense plates and window tint colors, to the trim and NOS color. And with almost every upgrade, you can choose a custom color for it (window tints, neon colors, exhast color, etc).

Now I own Need For Speed Rivals and Midnight Club 3. And I have also rented Ridge Racers for a month at gamefly.com.

Now with Ridge Racers, nothing could be customized, except for the car color. And the races were really boring, you always started in last. The turning was kind of weird because you didn't turn, you slid. And there was no real music, just like intense elevator music. With the other two, you get actual songs to listen to while you race. This game isn't worth the $40, but might be worth the $20 to some people, to get a used copy, at gamefly.com.

Need For Speed Rivals is a pretty good game. Most things are customizable, but you had to choose from their colors, and almost everything was locked. With Midnight Club 3, almost everything was unlocked, you just can't afford everything yet. Need For Speed Rivals did have more race types, but you couldn't free-roam like on the PS2 version (Neeed For Speed Underground 2) or like on Mignight Club. Need For Speed Rivals was a great game at the PSP Launch, but now I give it about 3.5/5, after seeing Mignight Club 3. I guess Need For Speed Rivals is worth the $40, but go for midnight club if you can.

Now Midnight Club 3 for the PSP is awesome! I rented the PS2 version on gamefly.com for about a month, and both are almost identical. I have noticed only two major differences:

    1. Slower loader times! It could take about 45 seconds to load the garage, or about a minute to load the free-roam mode, or a race. But it's still worth it, because you can go anywhere in the city, and check out any part in the garage.

    2. Controls are pretty different from the PS2 version. Some features are on different buttons, but you get used to them in about 5-15 minutes.

Out of these three PSP racing games I say that Midnight Club 3 is a winner. It's definately worth the $50 (or $40 on eBay). If you don't believe me, maybe you should rent it at gamefly.com.

    This game rocks5
Rockstar Games has done it again. This is one of my favorite games on the PS2 and now on PSP. Graphics are outstanding, soundtrack is awesome. Game play is superb, with a story in the background, it adds realism to the game.

If you like street racing and love PSP, this is a game for you.

5 out of 5 on everything!

The Best Racing Game Ever !5
The original version was an awesome game, but this one takes the cake. The few upgrades that are in this version make it well worth 20 bucks. There is more than 20 new cars, a new city, and more songs added to the radio. Even if you already own the original version this is still a must buy and if you dont have the original and you are a fan of driving games then this is STILL a must buy. The best thing about this new version is that you dont have to restart your old saved game file. If I could rate this game 1 to 5 I would give it a 20. This game is hours of fun for any racing game fan. Sure this game isnt very realistic, but that element makes it more fun. For anyone that owns a PS2 this is a must have game.

    The Remix edition is Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!5
I love the remix edition to Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition! It has more choices, which means more fun! Here are more reasons why I like this game.

You have much more cars in this game. 89 of them. You have lots of car groups which include SUV's & Trucks, Exotics, Import Tuners, Luxury Sedans, Classics & Muscles, Choppers, and Sport Bikes. You have new cars like Hummer-H3, Dodge- Magnum RT, Pagani-Zonda, and much more!

You can customize your car, your way with lots of customization choices to choose from like the Detail Shop, Body Shop, Performance Shop, and Colcor Shop!

You have 4 open cities which include San Diego, Atlanta, Detroit, and the 4 new city , Tokyo. These cities have open streets. You can go almost anywhere in these cities!

Games like Gran Turismo 4 and L.A. Rush aren't as good as this one! I highly recomend this game!

    As a 17 year old girly girl...5
I never in my life thought I'd ever upgrade from the original Nintendo system my dad always had, or play anything other than Original Mario Bros. But my boyfriend brought over his PS2 and this game back in September and now, 5 months later, I am still in love with Midnight Racer.

The only worthwhile way to play is in the Career mode, and once you get through the first race in San Diego, everything is very straight foward. I love how easy it is to customize your car. I know little to nothing about the engine works of a car, so the "auto upgrade" that gets you the best engine for your money all in one go is great for those less interested in the technical/mechanical aspects. The way that different customizations are locked gives me a reason to keep playing. Aside from that (and this is the most important part), I love all the cars! I love how I can make my entire collection of cars customized to a theme. I've completed 85% of my career, and have access to every kind of car. From my first muscle car to my latest exotic beauty... they all are pictures of perfection- pink, purple, and fuschia perfection. It drives my boyfriend nuts but then again, if I had met his taste in customized cars before I met him, I never would've picked us for a match.

I also appreciate that every car (and there are a lot!) drives a little differently. You can really perfect your own technique and style of racing, to truely make the game your own. My little sister, my boyfriend and I all drive differently so even watching someone else play this game is fun.

My only complaint is that the load time between cruising for a race and starting a race (or going from cruise mode to the garage, or the garage to cruise mode) takes FOREVER. And when I say forever I mean somwhere around 45-50 seconds. But I only really notice that when I'm playing solo, with another person to pass the time with it's not so bad.

All in all, this is the best racing game I have ever played. I've tried playing Need For Speed (several of them) as well as Turismo and Burnout... but those have so many things to remember and keep track of that I always find myself coming back to Midnight Club.

One of the best racers for PS3 so far!5
I just got Midnight Club Los Angeles Complete Edition the other day. I played the first Midnight Club for the PS One and wasn't a big fan. I didn't much care for the PSP Midnight Club either. But Los Angeles is a completely different story! I have to go to work early and I've been losing sleep because I can't put the controller down - it's that much fun!

I think Need for Speed games have a lot going for them, but my big gripe has been vehicle physics and controls which are too loose, floaty, and unpredictable. Midnight Club LA is an arcade game and the physics are far from realistic, but they got the controls right! Dodging oncoming traffic at 150pmh is possible - if you don't blink - and long drifts around corners are easily controlable. Acceleration from a stop is a little cheesy (makes for more drama off the line when starting a race), but once up to speed the handling is smooth and responsive.

I used to live near LA so I see familiar sights when cruising or racing, which is cool. The sharp detail and high resolution world just waiting to be explored is gorgeous! What's really amazing is that, once you get into the game, there are almost no load times at all! With a high resolution, 3D world like this, that's amazing! The developers are really showcasing what the PS3 is capable of here.

This is not the first racing game to feature reputation points, but the way building reputation unlocks cooler cars and upgrades is neat and motivates you to keep racing. You don't earn large amounts of money from early races, but there are a lot of different types of races which keeps things interesting. You hit paydirt when you come across the chance to win your opponent's car, which can be sold for a lot more than you'd make from a series of races. The game seems to be structured around picking a few favorites from the available vehicles and upgrading them, rather than collecting all the cars. There is a good mix of car classes and the car models are beautiful and nicely rendered.

The upgrade system is not as in-depth as some Need for Speed games or Gran Turismo but that's fine for a game like this where fine-tuning suspension settings wouldn't produce a noticeable difference. The fact that they are there, unlockable, and make your car go faster and turn better is enough. I'm not a big fan of the vinyls but I do like the paint and wheel options, which are easy to use for giving your vehicles a unique and customized look.

The best thing about this game is the nicely detailed graphics of the open world, and outrageously challenging and fun gameplay. I lost quite a few races from slamming into traffic or just plain going too fast to avoid obstacles on the last lap of a race, but I don't mind because it's so much fun! Cutting through a corner gas station doing an 85mph drift, then blasting through the fence on the other side of the street into an ally way shortcut with your opponents reving right behind you... Now that's fun! It's like they took the best parts of Burnout: Paradise and Need for Speed and put them in one game!

Great, fun, arcade racing experience for PS3. Amazing soundtrack5
First off, if you are not familiar with this series. It is pure arcade racer. There is no technical driving skill to learn like in Forza, Gran Turismo, or even a "semi-simulation" like Dirt 2. In this game very little impedes your ability to go fast. Trees don't slow you down. Cars in your own lane don't slow you down. Parked cars barely slow you down. About the only objects that can slow you down are oncoming traffic, concrete walls, and buildings. But then even some of the buildings have glass windows ;) The main competition for this game on PS3 seems to be Burnout Paradise. If you are a fan of burnout Paradise and want more simple/fun open world arcade racing action, you will probably love this.

If you wish to read more detailed breakdown of the game, here are my opinions:

Graphics: 8/10 - It is not state of the art for PS3. But it is really nice. Among the most popular current racers for the PS3 (as of 2009) only Dirt 2 and Gran Turismo are CLEARLY going to have better graphics. It is about on par with Burnout Paradise. I do like the LA environment better in this game than the Burnout surroundings. But admittedly the car models themselves are not quite up to par as some of the others (nothing terrible to look at, just not as detailed as you would expect on PS3 or XBOX360)

Gameplay: 8/10 - Like I said. It's extremely simple. Hold the petal to the metal. Most of the time in story mode you will be racing series or individual races of 4+ drivers or head to head against one AI driver. In other cases you must do time trials. Some of the games "missions" do add a twist where you have to deliver cars without any damage to a destination, essentially a time trail where you cannot take any car damage Most of the races through about the midway point are pretty easy to win, many with just one attempt. One cool gameplay element is if you get in trouble and are about to be passed, you can let out an EMP charge to slow down the overtaking cars. There are other "special attacks" in the game you can use, it adds a little twist to the otherwise shallow gameplay. The highest difficulty races are more frustrating and you must know the shortcuts to win. It really isn't so much technical driving skill as it is knowing the map, and luck of the draw whether you get by with a clean race or not.

Sound: 10/10. The sound effects don't really stand out. They are good, but nothing memorable. About on par with the racers mentioned previously. The voice acting is also well done. The music soundtrack is where this game really shines, as has come to be expected from Rockstar games. A terrific ecclectic mix of music that I actually wish I could put on my MP3 player.

Fun Factor: 10/10. This game is unbelievable addicting. It is simple to pick up. Easy in the beginning, incredibly difficult to 100% complete.

Replayability: 7/10. Online play adds some life to it. It's simplicity means it could be the type of game you want to pick up and play out of the blue. There is also an element to find the collectibles, Buy all the cars, customise your cars, etc. The Greatest Hits version adds a whole new set of lowriders and police cars to drive as well.

Overall: 9/10 (4.5 stars). While it's not as technical or deep as I expect Gran Turismo to be. I am thrilled to have this game in the meantime for some good cheap fun. As a greatest hits package it's a great deal. There was no patch to download in this version. It is the first time I've purchased a PS3 greatest hit, I guess it should be expected to be a fully patched/updated version right on the disc.

Excelent edition, racing fans must buy5
I am a huge fan of Gran Turismo, and recently Burnout, saying that its obvious that I like arcade racing games and simulation games. Though I prefer by far Gran Turismo than any other racing game. I had Midnight club 2 for ps2 many years ago, and I loved it, its true its an arcade style game (This game I am reviewing), but with all that realistic content at your disposal its a dream, also not to worry for breaking bad. Los Angeles is great, though I've only been there twice I cant relate with some place specifically. cars and customization is by far better than need for speed, it gives you more freedom in every sense.

At any price, lower than $[...] its a must by if you have money, if you havent tried Burnout paradise, well buy both, but if you can only afford one, buy burnout, and after that this one. Both have so many differences and pro's on each that its worth having both.

And of course Gran Turismo 5

by the way this game remembers me a lot to Grand Theft Auto 4, if you like that style, you'll love this one. Just not on foot

While the latest PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Midnight Club have gotten the most attention, this LA Remix version will please PSP fans looking for some hot, wild racing on the go.

This version in fact adds a second city, Tokyo, which you unlock in career mode after mastering LA.

LA Remix also has ad-hoc wireless racing for up to four players.

In short, at $40, this version of MC probably gives you the most bang for your buck.

And did I mention how good the game looks on the PSP's bright little screen? Beautiful -- and the cars handle wonderfully as well.

What cars are here? Tuners including a Pontiac Solstice and Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged. Muscle cars past and present, like a '69 Mustang Boss 302, a '70 General Lee, and the new Camaro. Plus exotics like the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster, the Ford GT and Shelby Cobra, a brace of Lambos, and a Saleen S7. No Ferraris or Bugattis, unfortunately...

There are shortcuts and multiple routes... cop chases and interference... wild power-ups and air time... and your car takes damage -- too much, and the race is over!

The long and short is -- there's tons of fun for PSP fans here. Highly recommended!

Best Racing Game on the PSP!5
Midnight Club: LA Remix is the best racing game on the PSP. Even better than the new Gran Turismo game on PSP. Midnight Club: LA Remix is also perfect even if you're not that big of a racing game fan as much as it is perfect for racing game fans.

There are so many things to do on Midnight Club: LA Remix.
    - Free Roam around 2 Huge Maps of Los Angeles, CA, USA and Tokyo, Japan.
    - Tons and tons of Exterior Customization from tons of body parts, rims, license plates, etc.
    - Tons and tons of Interior Customization from tons of seats, steering wheels, gauges, etc.
    - A 24 Hour Day/Night cycle, so the time of day is constantly changing
    - Weather effects from clear and sunny weather to cloudy weather, rain, etc.
    - A huge ammount of cars in all different types from Tuners, Muscle cars, Exotics, etc.
    - There are also Motorcycles where you can pull wheelies and do stoppies, with tons of customization like the cars.
    - All of the Cars and Motorcycles are real life, licensed vehicles like Lamborghini, Kawasaki, Ford, Chevrolet, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, and more.
    - Dynamic Police that chase you if you run a right light or go past the speed limit. You can then also lose the cops. However, you can then also get pulled over and arrested.
    - More customization like a vinyl editior (like in Forza 2) where you can create any image and overal vinyl you want using various shapes, letters, and numbers. Example like a "The Dark Knight" car, the McDonalds logo, etc.

So, if you are a racing game fan or not, whoever you are, if you have a PSP get Midnight Club: LA Remix!

    midnight club is cooool.......!!!!!5
The first midnight club that i bought was Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition. I thought the game was way better than other racing games because it had a city to race through that was realistic , and let's face it, it is funny as hell crashing over curbs and flipping end over end down the streets of a real city. The upgrades to the engine, the cool neons and other exterior adjustments, and the collection of cool cars you can get over time were also great parts to the game. The new game has one less city, but the colors are more vibrant, and i think the animation quality has gotten better too. Anyways a great second game. I was waiting for this to come out, and it was as cool as i thought it would be.
