    One use1
The makeover ticket is a single use only. You download it and you can only change the way your character looks once and then you need a new ticket.

    Disgusting1
Charging players any money at all, let alone $5, to access an arbitrarily locked feature like this is disgusting. It's a basic feature, not even additional content.

Another good installment in the Hot Shot golf series5
After playing all the Hot Shot Golf games on the Playstation 2 and being very pleased with all of them, I am again impressed with the new Out of Bounds version for the Playstation 3. Beginning with a look at graphics, I don't know if I would label them true 'next generation' in appearance but they are very nice to look at. Whether it is reflections off of water or vegetation or clothes on the players and caddies, it is well done in my opinion. As far as seamless game play, you're going to get that here. There is no lag or stutter in any animations and the load times are virtually non-existent in almost every case. Movement from hole to hole is quick and a round of golf can be too. I can play a round of 9 holes in about 12 to 15 minutes (I'm still on the 9 hole challenges at this point in the game).

When it comes to the controls used in playing the game, they are easy to learn and not hard to master, with one exception. This new version introduces a new type of advanced shot method where you watch the backswing of your player and look for flashing lights at certain points to gauge how hard to swing. Upon making your downswing, a circular meter below the golfer has a ring around it that collapses toward a ball icon and when the circle shrinks to encompass the ball, you hit the X button on the controller at just the right time to get a perfect hit. It sounds complicated but it isn't really. It is all a matter of timing and a little patience required. I personally still use the traditional shot method as seen in previous Hot Shot games which is the power bar at the bottom which gives you more precision in setting power and showing just where to hit a solid impact on the ball. I've found the advanced shot type a bit awkward personally and even though the manual says that the new method offers better range and impact zone, I haven't noticed any significant differences between the two shot methods and this is after playing many rounds with many different types of clubs using both shot types.

So far I've only played on two courses in the challenge mode (you open up new courses after beating a computer opponent in each challenge session) and what I've seen so far is good stuff. There is options to play regular games (stroke, match play, etc.) aside from the challenges and you can do practice rounds also where you can set course conditions to help you make shots in certain types of situations. There are 5 main characters that you can choose to start out with and each one has their own individual strengths, animations, and funny ways of talking. There is also several different caddies that add a good dose of humor now and again during the rounds.

I haven't played online yet and I don't know If I will do that but the instruction manual is very detailed on how to do this and the manual is excellent regarding all other facets of the game also. Something to look forward to, according to the game makers, is the fact that later on you can go online to download new content for the game including new courses, new gear, and other goodies. If you're a past fan of Hot Shots Golf, I would definitely recommend picking up Out of Bounds because it's a great game in my opinion and should bring many hours of fun to those that like golf.

New Hot Shots just as good as it was when I first played5
I have been playing Hot Shots Golf since the first time it came out on Playstation and it never loses its fun. This new game, first version for the PS3, is just as fun as the orignal, plus with updated graphics. The controls are tight, the sounds are great, I have not been able to stop playing until my girlfriend wrestled the controller away from me.

    Highly addictive5
There's not much that I can say that hasn't all ready been said by other reviewers. This game is beautiful, and a lot of fun. You're given two starting characters with a caddy to choose from. The environments are simply breath taking.

But that's not the selling point of this game. No, the online play is the best feature and while it may not have voice chat it is still highly enjoyable! You're able to customize your own little character that looks somewhat similar to a Mii from Nintendo's Wii. As you win tournaments against other players you receive new items to customize your character with.

I highly recommend this for any fan of casual golf games, that likes to play with other people.

    Fit for purpose4
The product works and does have the 32MB memory it quotes. I've only had the cards for a few weeks, but so far, no problems. The packaging is shady and doesn't reflect the product it holds, but the product is the end result for me.

Keep my fingers cross that nothing breaks in 6mths time because I wouldn't know what warranty comes with these cards.

A bit shady, but not defective.4
While I have only used one of the two memory cards you get in this configuration, it has worked perfectly and served its purpose. I have not had any problems whatsoever with it.

    Story
The story of White Knight Chronicles is set in the fictional Kingdom of Balandor and follows the adventures of a boy named Leonard who realizes his role in a drama started thousands of years in the past. Working in the proximity of the palace, Leonard stumbles on a plot to kidnap the enigmatic Princess Cisna. As he helps her escape he also becomes aware of his connection to a transformative power which allows him to take on the ancient shape, and harness the devastating power of the White Knight. Yet there are other elements at work here as well, including the forces of an evil wizard with powers that stretch back to the same ancient times which produced the White Knight. With the help of his friends and the power of the White Knight, these are the forces that Leonard will have to face in his quests.

    Gameplay
White Knight Chronicles is a Japanese RPG (JRPG) centered around a turn-based battle system in a local single player story-driven campaign that is supported by online multiplayer functionality. Gameplay questing occurs from a third-person perspective and follows Leonard and up to three other AI companions, which can include the customizable character that players assume in multiplayer mode. Once quest members are assembled, players utilize the strengths of the overall group as a whole, and are able to switch between characters at will. Combat being turn-based, players must be able to cue up and control the actions of each character in quick sequence for each combat scenario faced. The game facilitates this via the Function Palette, located in its Battle Preparation menu, allowing players to prepare in advance a series of commands for each character to carry out. These can involve magic or weapons use and can be merged into combos. Multiple palettes can be saved, making it possible to optimize actions for specific types of enemies, and making for quick changing of commands. As with any RPG, throughout quests players accumulate experience which allows their character to level up, purchase items and abilities and generally grow stronger with an eye towards besting the increasingly challenging creatures, bosses and situations faced.

    Online Multiplayer
Along with a compelling single player campaign, White Knight Chronicles also contains an exciting online multiplayer component. Within this, up to four players can engage in more than 50 multiplayer quests, with each player creating their own unique customizable character which can be leveled up in a combined group effort, and take advantage of created items and new skills. Although unique to the online game mode, which is designed for multiplayer action, these quests can also be played alone if players wish. In addition to this functionality available in the online multiplayer mode also includes a variety of ways to interact with the wider White Knight Chronicles community on the PlayStation 3 platform. Included in this is town building through the Georama functionality, which allows players to construct a town to their own specifications that can be populated offline with characters from throughout the single player campaign and then taken online where it serves as a base for quests hosted by players, as well as a persistent online location that other players can visit and buy items your town's population has for sale. The game also offers an online interface known as GeoNet that allows players to communicate with others via blogs, forums, quest logs and voice chat functionality, as well as post snapshots from their journeys using the Crystal Camera in-game tool.

    Pretty average solo, great online4
    Graphics-
It's no surprise by looking at numerous videos and screen-captures of this game that it's a far cry from cutting edge. The overall technical level of the graphics is either showing its age or they took a hit by having such expansive and large set pieces and characters. That isn't to say they're awful though. Each individual looking at this game will likely have to evaluate what they demand in terms of graphics from a game. I personally would call them passable because while they aren't astonishing the locations of the game are interesting to look at and the enemies and characters you'll meet are appropriate to their settings and fun. Character and attack animations while mostly understated still manage to be engaging and entertaining with spells being the most impressive of the bunch.

    Sound-
The music thus far has been strictly average. At times I feel as though I have a pack of bards tailing me because the majority of the songs I've heard having that kind of simple village music sound to them, flutes with little boisterous drive to get the blood boiling. The voice overs aren't too bad, none of the characters are particularly irritating in cut scenes or battles but the timing does suffer from the typical Japanese to English dub syncing issues. Overall I'd say everything works on a functional level but it does little inspire the player like a very good score sometimes can.

    Combat-
Battles play out with a bit of a blend between turn based RPG standards with a touch of MMORPG. Before battles you can set up action bars by placing acquired skills in to slots. During a fight you will have a circular timer count up and when full you can select an action from your preselected set to use. At the very start of the game it seems painfully slow due to few options for skills and the likelihood that you don't fully understand how the system works. As you get more attacks, build combos, and balance your load-out to your liking though it becomes much more enjoyable. One could for example play a mage with little to no armor wielding a dagger and they'd get turns much faster than a heavily armored melee fighter but the obvious trade off is that they become a bit of a glass cannon by trading defense for speed. I think there's a lot of not so obvious depth to the combat which makes it rather enjoyable for me. Granted it isn't a system everybody will enjoy and criticisms against it I feel have been fair from reading other reviews.

    Enemies-
The enemies themselves seem to come in two flavors, big and small. Small enemies are pretty much what you would expect, find what hurts them and hurt them with it. Collect your spoils, wash, rinse, repeat. The bigger enemies however are much more fun to fight and offer more nuanced ways of defeating them. Early on you'll be fighting trolls for example. Trolls have 4 targetable zones, their 2 legs, the belly, and their head. You can defeat the enemy just by hitting it anywhere, it doesn't really matter, but you can grant you and your party opportunities by exploiting the enemy's weakness. In the case of a troll for example you can shoot out their legs to prevent them from attacking briefly all the while granting your party an increased chance to hit by way of lowering the troll's evasion. Another option in the single player mode is using the namesake White Knight to put the fight a little more in to proportion but still fundamentally the same. There's a lot of variety in this sense though. You'll encounter a limited number of archetypes for the bigger enemies but exploring these alternative and tactical ways of defeating them is both fun and rewarding as I believe attacking certain body parts can yield certain drops a la Monster Hunter (speculation).

    Skills and Character Progression-
Leveling is pretty typical for the most part, kill a bunch of stuff and complete quests to accrue enough experience to advance a level. Upon leveling up in addition to a base increase to various stats you are awarded 4 skill points. These points can be used in several different specialties to grant abilities and stat bonuses to your character. Each individual specialty has 50 things to buy so with 8 trees you're looking at 400 possible purchases, of which I'd say about 80% are skills the remaining 20% being stat bonuses (guestimates). Needless to say that's a pretty adequate repertoire to choose from. Individual characters may more or less select from any set but certain story characters are locked out of certain sets. Your self created "avatar" is open to choose from them all though. From what I've read, but I can neither confirm or deny at this juncture, is that your created character is also given a chance for a re-specialization (or respec as we nerds call it) at level 50 and following the completion of the story mode. This respec supposedly bumps you back to level 35, refunds all of your skill points, and rewards you with 40 additional bonus points. This can be done upwards of 4 times. All things considered it's a very flexible system with a lot of possible appeal to min/maxers by having the ability to dip in to multiple trees. By about level 22 I had "maxed" a single set so those simply going through story mode I imagine will be looking at going fully in to 2 trees or maybe touching base in 2-4.

    Combos-
I just wanted to briefly address the combo system. After gaining some skills you can freely make your own combos using those skills. The advantage to a combo is that it allows you to unload several powerful attacks given a single turn counter but they also are costly in terms of battle resources. In battle you have typical MP which various abilities use, not just magic, and then you also have "Action Chips" which for lack of a better way of putting it is effectively a super bar. So a combo will typically have a pretty steep MP/AC cost but again this is pretty flexible depending on how many and which skills you build the combo with. Having a good spammable combo is just as viable as having a devastating nuke.

    The White Knight-
The White Knight is a mechanic of the story and doesn't exist in the online mode. The main character may transform in to the White Knight at will (space permitting) and may stay in the form for as long as he has MP. Each attack the Knight uses depletes Leonard's MP and once drained he reverts to his normal form. Your other party members are allowed to fight alongside the White Knight and as you progress through the game, and Leonard develops, you will acquire equipment for the Knight which boosts the combat abilities of your party members in the presence of the Knight. The Knight also gets a baseline increase in fighting power as Leonard progresses ranging from skills to stats.

    Story-
Save the princess, save the kingdom, save the world. Nothing to write home about but it's a serviceable and time honored plot. It won't be moving any story junkies in any particular way but it is peppered with its charming, humorous, and exciting moments.

    Online-
Here we go, this in my opinion is the meat and potatoes of the game and it's single most redeeming factor. The format is simple, select a quest, recruit some other players, and head out. This is all organized in common areas called hometowns. Initially there is only the one generic town which anybody can access but individual players have the ability to create their own town via the game's Georama system. The town isn't just a place to plop building and look pretty though. Depending on which buildings you have and who you put in them can alter various factors of your town such as shop inventories. Upgrading your Georama hometown is a constant endeavor. Each individual set piece needs to be crafted which requires having various collected materials from the environment and the world's denizens as well as often large sums of cash. The residents of your home are also drawn from the single-player world where NPCs with green speech bubbles can be openly recruited. You're only allowed to have so many NPCs in your roster at a given time so you'll often have to revisit your recruitment efforts to select people of specific professions or finding more able individuals to replace poor performers as your town advances (most recruits have requirements to recruit and aren't immediately available). There's a lot of subtlety to the system though. Each NPC has a job and having multiple NPCs with the same job, and furthermore selecting a leader amongst them, grants bonuses to their respective categories (farmers, warriors, mages...) when placed in the same building. On the flip side penalties can also be issued by mixing your NPCs.

So you've got your town and you've got your quests, now what? As you enter in to a quest you will be met with a staging area where people can prep and meet before the quest starts. Once all the players are organized the leader may manually start the quest or a pre-determined time limit will automatically initiate the quest. There isn't necessarily anything fundamentally exciting about the online missions but the difficult is ramped up considerably and the rewards are typically quite good for completing them. Completing a mission in a timely fashion with varying level of completion also grants a rank for the particular mission and a corresponding scaling in the reward. Being able to coordinate as a team keeps the battles exciting and rewarding and really ties together the various skill sets. Magic for example does heaps more damage than bow skills but the bow skill set features many abilities to open up weaknesses for the rest of your party. All things considered it's very fun and does away with what is sometimes a mundane single player experience to get down to the nuts and bolts of what makes the game enjoyable.

The online and offline mode are more or less tied together though. You must advance through the single player to be granted more access to new areas and online quests so unfortunately those completely appalled by the single player would have to soldier through it to fully access the online mode. On that same note, those who don't care for the solo-player may find it easier to swallow by doing a little here and there as you push your online efforts forward.

And that is basically that. In conclusion I've found that most of the complaints I've read about the game to be fair, or at the very least not wildly off base, but on that same note the bulk majority of them address only the single player campaign. From this we can gather that this game offers much more value to those willing and able to access the online mode. That isn't to say that the single player is a chore, it simply isn't overly impressive in any particular way and it's even harder to get excited about coming off of Mass Effect 2 and leading in to Final Fantasy 13 and several other RPGs. If sold by itself with no online mode I could only recommend this game in good faith at a bargain price or a rental.

    Pros-
Good character customization, looks and abilities.
    Extremely fun online play.
    Big and enjoyable enemies.

    Cons-
    Forgettable story
    Somewhat dated graphics
    Rather average single player

    Honest Review4
I am going to make this review short and concise, and will not waste your time with a wall of text.

    Key Points:
    - This game was released 2 years ago, so do not complain about the graphics. Overall the graphics are not the best, but I would say the background and the settings of the game is beautifully done.

    - International Version? No you do not get the Japanese Vocals in this nor the Japanese Intro music you are stuck with the horrible dubbing. But you do get all the update revisions and the bonus quest for Online play.

    - How long is the game? Single player mode can be beaten within 40-50 hours of game play. But what makes this game attractive is the Online portion of the game, since many veterans who owned this game are still clocking hours and hours in the game. Online portion resembles Dark Cloud in some aspect, where you are given a Home Town which you can build upon; this Home Town can also serve as your Online Lobby among you and your friends. Online play is pretty much based off of questing.

    - Storyline? Yet a lot of people complain how simple the storyline was, I enjoyed it. A lot of the RPGs these days have a massive storyline, but end up confusing the hell out of you.

Final Notes: There are plenty of mix reviews on this game, but if you enjoy the traditional JRPG play style then this game is for you. All in all, this game does have a lot of replay value if you intended to play the Online portion of the game. Also keep in mind that the story does not have a closure, since a direct sequel is being made at the moment.

My Experience with White Knight Chronicles4
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RI1YZP3JD2GMZ My original video was 12 minutes long so there are a few awkward edits to get it down to 10, but this should give you a good idea of what to expect with this game.

It is decent but not fantastic.4
First, I like to clear up something that was bothering me when I bought this controller. Well.. Just how small is it? Now, I can assure those who are wondering about this same question. Its case is just slightly smaller than official ps2 controller so it is not a kind of controller that only child can use. I have an average adult size hands (well maybe little smaller than average)and the size of controller itself doesn't bother me during gameplay (it's just different from official one).

But I am little hesitant over recommending this controller due to some serious flaws(it's just my opinion. some might not mind it as much).

First one is its D-pad. D-pad on this controller is much smaller than official one thus it is very difficult to do some precise inputting. If you play games like rpg types, this won't be a problem for you since navigating menu with D-pad or something like that is pretty easy. But if you play game like Tekken, you have a serious problem since it will be hell on your thumb(I am not saying its impossible. It will just be very difficult)

Second flaw is the buttons. Four buttons on the top of controller are placed more closer than its official counterparts but I actually like this layout. Problem lies with buttons themselves. Simply, they are not as sensitive as official sony controller. I suppose they work as they should but I noticed that in order to get the desired effects I have to press bit harder than I had to with Sony controller. I only noticed this problem when I was playing sports games (ex. NBA2k) but it is not a crippling problem. Just annoying.

Size of L2 and R2 buttons are noticeably smaller on this controller as well. So they are not as comfortable as Sony controller. Also, head of two analog sticks are smaller too but this didn't bother me at all(you get used to it quickly).

    Summary

    Cons

    1. Crappy D-pad. (Imagine Xbox 360 D-pad. then imagine slightly worse quality one)
    2. Buttons are not too sensitive. ( you will only notice it for some specific games or you may not notice this at all)
    3. Size of L2 and R2 buttons. (R1 and L1 buttons are small as well but only size of L2 and R2 buttons bothered me during gameplay).

Pros (Yes!! There are pros. I just didn't mention them because I got tired of writing)

    1. Look of controller. (This controller look reasonably attractive and it even have blue light that lights up when it is connected to ps2 even though I can't usually see it due to memory card blocking it)

    2. Rubber padding on the handle of the controller. (I don't know how useful it is but it is nice to have.)

    3. Turbo function. (Yes, It has turbo function and it works. I don't use it normally but I am sure some people would appreciate it.)

    Conclusion

I wouldn't recommend this item if this cost same price as Sony controller. But It is a great deal at this price (around 10 bucks). Sure it has some issues but they are just annoying and they do not render the controller unusable. If you are casual gamer, there is a good chance that you won't even notice those problems at all. I certainly wouldn't recommend this to some guy with large hands but if your hands are close to normal size, you can use this controller without any worry.

    mini controller 25
I am an adult with small hands. This controller is perfect for
me when I am slaying the bad guys.

    GREAT CONTROLLER.5
THIS CONTROLLER WORKS VERY WELL. IT IS A BIT SMALL, SO IF YOU HAVE BIG HANDS IT MIGHT NOT BE FOR YOU.

Just as good as SOCOM 2...5
Okay, I will write my review for the single player portion of the game as I have not played the online portion yet. I have focused on the single player portion only. I enjoy online for the most part but there are too many idiots out there who ruin it by talking smack and cussing like they think it is cool, most of them are kids. Anyways, onto the review.

In the single player portion, you will play in three different locales. Each locale will offer multiple levels up to around 6 or 7, based on how soon you achieve your bonus objectives. If someone escapes who you could have caught as a bonus, then you continue to another level to try to apprehend that suspect again. The missions are nicely laid out and varied this time around. There are vehicles that have been introduced as well that you can drive such as the standard combat boats, buggys, 5 tons and a few others. Weapon lay out is nicely added with multiple weapon combinations that you can use. SOCOM has always been the leader in the realistic approach of special warfare. The bullet impacts in the game are extremely realistic, whether that is hitting the body of the enemy or shooting thru different materials such as glass or crates. The bodies will react to each and every single shot as in real life with the force of impact driving the body in the game. Nice touch to me for realism.

I have to say though that after SOCOM 1 and SOCOM 2, there was a short time frame between those games, only a year, and there was a 2 year hiatus between SOCOM 2 and SOCOM 3 that I would have expected a better gain in graphic performance. While it still looks good, I wished it would have looked slightly better in overall terms. Zipper has gone through a lot of work to get the little details included in the game such as the different sounds of the weapons and the sounds of the different materials they are shot through. This game would have rocked in my opinion even more if they had included the methods of insertion such as scuba diving or sky diving. Would have brought the immersion factor up even more.

The Sony PSP will be gaining the SOCOM Fireteam Bravo for it and from what I have read the two games are supposed to be interoperable by connecting the two console units to one another, but I am not positive on this so it will be interesting to see what comes of that.

All in all SOCOM 3 is a great game and definitely keeps the lead for the best shooter on PS2, and in my opinion one of the best shooters over Xbox as well. The realism is there, the immersion factor is there and the attention to detail is there. At the very least give this game a chance with a game rental. You will most likely be headed for the store when the time comes to return the game and pick up your very own copy. Enjoy.

    Strategy, vehicles, huge maps!5
How is Socom 3 this good? What has it done better than Socom 2 to still earn such a high score? I'm only going to discuss the ONLINE portion, aside from saying that I did play the first couple of single-player missions. I found that quite fun. Hadn't done that with Socom 2. Nope, went straight online with that one. Funny, never even read the Socom 2 instruction book. Ok. Back to Socom 3 Online!!

It's really the maps and vehicles that make Socom 3 a five star game. People complain about graphics, but I disagree with that. More on that later.

The maps are huge. 32 player huge. These are beautiful maps and well crafted with tons of nooks and hiding spots. I don't find myself looking for anything less than 20 people. This right here is an achievement. No other console game has it ( i don't think). And it runs so smooth. I'm sure that many haters are in disbelief and/or don't want to believe how good this works... and on the ol' reliable PS2!! Some arguers may say that 32 players loses the intimacy the 16 player games of Socom 2 had. Socom 2 is a much different game when you talk about online play. Smaller maps, no vehicles. Anyway, larger maps (with multiple spawn points) support teamwork and planning strategy for attack with teammates. When you're alone in these large environments, separated from your team, hold that M16 tight to appease pangs of solitude and fear. They will creep your skin.

So let's talk about the vehicles. They're a lot of fun, a great added addition if you want vehicular assault or if you need a quick lift to your favorite sniping point. But there's another important thing vehicles have done for Socom 3 versus Socom 2. They've made it fair for people to carry RPGs or M203s without the other team crying "cheap". Hey, if you try and run me over, what's unfair about me shooting your tank rocket launcher? The playing field is evened in that respect. Having some Halo experience has helped me avoid getting run over multiple times.

Last, I'll talk about the graphics. They're fine. People feel the need to complain about something. Let's face it. Graphics have come a haul's ass further from what they were ten years ago. Pretty much all games have damn good/realistic graphics nowadays. Do some games have better graphics than Socom 3? Sure. Somewhat better. But that begs this question. Do any other console games have 32 player online?

Why rush out to buy a next-gen system when we have this?

    REAL SOCOM 3 REVIEW4
    YOU -VS- COMPUTER MODE

Though Socom has it's flaws, it still rocks. Definately get it. Slipping into a lake for a midday swim-sneak attack is definately a good time. Hummers and boats are good time. Car jacking enemy technicals is always fun. The new controls take some time getting used to but your team operates much more seamlessly now: You don't need to talk so much because they've given you a quick option to only use hand signals (which real teams use anyway)... "On me." "Go there." And the "one button" quick exchange from rife to side arm come in handy on-the-fly. It definately shows how much thought they put into this one.

And where as in past games where you had to verbally order your guys to crouch or lay prone, when they're in FOLLOW MODE, they automatically mimic your stance which is a definate plus -- and oh yeah, Boomer's still not in the game. Hopefully he's not at BUDS teaching anyone either.

One of the flaws it has, and will probably always have is the AI. Though it definately is better then the previous incarnations (now the enemies run, duck, take cover, hunt you down; all making for cool, realistic pitched firefights) at times they still act like complete dummies: ie... "What was that?" Who's there?" "Did you hear something?" -- yeah, the round i accidentaly fired off not 20 feet away from you 'cause i'm unfamiliar with the controls, but for some unimaginable reason you and your buddy Mustafa aren't thye least bit alarmed -- half the fun is "steathing it" and it can be disheartening at times to spend 20 minutes sneaking around, only to realize that you didn't have to because they wouldn't have seen you anyway...

The other flaw is that though I throughly enjoy the expansiveness of the maps, the enemies are few and far between. I'm not expecting a battalion around every corner but if a terrorist group has taken over a North African village, you'd expect a presence of more than 20 tangos. Granted the the maps in the previous game were smaller, but it felt somewhat more realistic. I assume it's due to the PS2 engine's inability to handle so much happening all at once (as seen by the PS2 / Xbox comparison i made with "Brothers In Arms."

Overall though, your team's graphics are still kick-ass and the weapons choices from the armory are steller. Jay still gives it 2 thumbs way up!
