Try it before you buy it...1
Ok, we bought one of these DDR pads... I got one for my wife, the most expensive and supposedly "best" one money can buy.. the all metal "championship" model after our $99 plastic pad died (it lasted over a year with tons of use). While intially the metal pad seemed to work ok, we started "missing" steps to songs that we could easily ace before. I'd pick "Game of Love", like, the easiest, simplest one, and suddenly I'm totally "missing" steps when the rhythm picks up. You have to hit the pad incredibly hard sometimes for it to register... harder than any child possibly could. I think people might be fooled if they start with one of these metal pads, thinking they just need to "improve". However, my wife, who's really good at it, said the same thing. Suddenly she's "missing" beats, even ones where your feet don't need to leave the arrow, its just multiple hits on the same pad.
I'm really dissapointed. The pad was super expensive, it sucks, and my wife doesn't use it anymore. The plastic pad for $99 worked way better (it was actually fun to play) and even our $19.99 "roll up" pad is more accurate than these metals ones. The metal ones look pretty, but make sure you try it before you buy it.

    Terrible mat!1
I definitely have to agree with the previous reviewer. I bought two of these pads brand new, and they are just awful. First off, both my wife and I are above average at DDR. We have no problems with most expert level songs. We went from the $20 soft "rollup" mats to these, expecting to see a noticeable improvement in performance. Not so. What we saw was a huge DROP in performance. The cheap mats are much better than these, at a fraction of the cost. These are no where near arcade quality as claimed.

The advertisement says these can handle up to 600 lbs. It should say that the player has to WEIGH 600 lbs in order to hit the buttons hard enough for them to register. The sensitivity on these things is horrible! If you're doing any advanced songs that require quick feet movement and "soft stepping", you can forget it. We even gave it several days thinking that maybe our playing style just had to adjust to the hard mats, or perhaps we had to "break them in" a little, but no; these mats just plain suck.

At least the previous poster only wasted money on one mat. I'm stuck with two big pieces of scrap metal since we're going back to the soft pads. Save yourself the money and frustration and avoid these like the plague!
