Sonic: Party racing at its best!
Sonice & Sega All-Stars racing takes the popular genre of the racing genre and adds in our favorite SEGA characters. One of the leading features of the game is the wide amount of fan service given to the characters. Sonic fans will love to see their Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Eggman as racers; they will see tracks themed with Sonic (and even sound effects like the bumper from the casinos of the Sonic the Hedgehog series), and they will even be able to hear and unlock numerous songs from throughout the Sonic universe, such as "Super Sonic Racing" from Sonic R, or even "What U Need" from Sonic Rush. Not only is this true for the Sonic series but is true for the other series represented (Sambe De Amigo, Super Monkey Ball, etc).
This game brings SEGA characters and unites them in this genre, which is perhaps quite fun. For the PS3, PSN support lets players race with up to 4 players split screen (locally), or with 2 to 8 players via the online mode.
The mechanics to racing are quite simple with really easy to grasp controls. Use a trigger button to gas, one to break, and then the x-button to launch a weapon. Its pretty fast and hectic which makes every racing experience unique.
There is just one fault and that is probably some of the levels are quite short, however its only about four of them among the twenty-four tracks. The voice acting of the characters is true to how they have always sounded, and the narrator is quite funny.
Definitely check the game out and enjoy it.

Sega Fan pleased
I grew up with Sonic and loved his game until Sonic Heroes. I've played several of the games featuring the characters in this game (monekey ball, shenmue, Crazy taxi, jet grind radio etc). And I have to say this game pays a good tribute to them while being a fun kart game.
First of all, I'm playing the PS3 version. It doesn't come with any added Sony characters but it adds the ability to steer using the sixaxis. Sad as I was, the game is about the Sega characters we loved and a fun racing gameplay.
The obvious comparison is with Mario Kart which I have only play in the Gamecube. It is true, the mechanics are very similar. You will also get power ups to help you out or, make a mess of your opponents. Drifting will allow you to boost depending on the duration of your drift. A welcome addition to the mario kart gameplay, is the all-star move. This allows people in current last places to have a good chance on getting a, well presented, powerup boost into the bulk of the racers. This keeps the race more intense at all times, and for the not-so-great drivers like myself, helps me have more fun and not feel frustrated by my lack of skills.
As far as racing kart gameplay goes, if you like MarioKart you will like this game. And if you've never played mariokart then this is a good game to get the idea bout this amazing "genre" of games.
The special touch for fanboys comes in the presentation and music in game. The tracks are very well designed around the scenarios from the games we love. I've shown the game to friends and all have loved the graphics and how good or "pretty" it looks. Along with the clear zone references to previous games in each track, the music for the game uses constant similar soundtracks as the ones in previous games, which adds to the nostalgia the developers of the game managed to present very very well.
For fanboys, the characters details, all-star moves, track design and music in the game will have you going through memory lane. I've enjoyed hearing the music beats of Sonic Adventure games and if you are a fanboy I think you will be pleased. (And we all know Sonic is faster without a car, and the game will even make reference to this) If you don't mind seeing Sonic racing in a car, you will be pleased.
A couple of things that I would have loved to be in the game are, first to allow me to play splitscreen AND online at the same time. It sucks that I can not play with my friends far away at the same time with those that are just right there in my sofa. Also the different "party" games in split screen are just variation of the same hit-and-run type of games. There is not much variability for party games and worst, in online mode they never make use of them. I would personally enjoyed to play capture the chao online.
This are some of my complains, which never hurt the game they just would have added much more value to it, but overall I've been playing this game more than any other right now.
I sincerely recommend it to every sega fan, or those that want a quick arcade racing fix for their ps3.
A Sega Surprise
Great game. Shares similar elements of The Mario Kart series, but has its own gorgeous design and feel. The controls are very simple an easy to pick up! Overall, a great game for those of us who like the kart genre, but don't own a Wii. You can tell the developers at Sumo Digital took their time on this title .
