Confront terrors both known and unknown in a explosive battle for survival with F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin for PS3. This action-packed follow-up to Monolith Productions's award-winning supernatural shooter F.E.A.R. begins where the previous game left off. This time, you'll come up against Alma's powers from the perspective of special forces operator Michael Becket. After an enormous explosion has devastated the city of Auburn, you'll quickly discover that what seemed like an ordinary mission to retrieve and interrogate Genevieve Aristide is anything but.

Ghoulish supernatural enemies give F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin a horrific, cinematic feel. View larger.

You'll explore and do battle in the dark corners of the ruined city of Auburn. View larger.

An enhanced graphics engine offers more dramatic effects. View larger.

Project Origin Run Amok: Alma's Background
Fans of the first game will be familiar with the suspenseful story surrounding the psychic Alma, a peculiar and disturbing odyssey that adds depth to her devastating quest for revenge and immediacy to gameplay. Origin began as a secret military project run by the Aramacham Technology Corporation (ATC) . In an experiment run by Alma's own father, her DNA was used to create two clones that possessed her impressive psychic powers in an attempt to engineer a telepathic military commander. In the end, the research team became worried about the dangers of Alma's powers, and they tried to kill her.

While her heart stopped beating and her physical body died, her psychic energy continued to exist, and she manifested herself in many forms, including both a child and a deformed adult figure that betrays the gruesomeness of her ordeal. Due to a string of events tied to both her clones, Alma has escaped the disastrous explosion of the last game and the facility where she was held, and the haunting manifestations of her power are at work all around you, adding an unpredictable, nightmarish quality to the world.

Strange Events in a Supernatural Setting
In order to get anywhere in the rubble of the city of Auburn, you'll need to survive firefights, stay calm in the face of surprisingly graphic events, and uncover the terrifying and mysterious nature of your real enemies. Your character's phenomenal reflexes allow the much-talked-about slow motion effect from the original title to persist here, giving you an edge in combat and adding to the unique nature of your perspective.

    Improved Details and Enemy AI
An enhanced graphics engine means more detailed environments to explore and better effects. The vast destruction in the city opens up a huge variety of spaces and enhances the other-worldly feel of your mission, and you better be ready to stay on guard because all-new enemies powered by improved AI don't just act more realistically than their predecessors, they employ advanced combat tactics and know how to use the environment against you. But they aren't the only ones with more resources at their disposal--additional world interaction enhancements allow you to create cover and protect yourself or remove obstacles from your path.

While it may be the horrific action and the details that first catch your eye, the tactical demands and the way story elements are slowly unveiled promise to help keep you interested as gameplay wears on. And for those times when you're not in the mood for a prolonged single-player campaign, this title also offers the ability to battle with or against friends in multiplayer mode.

    Ghost in the Game3
So FEAR 2 is a sequel. But, you do not need to play the original to enjoy this game.
The story of FEAR 2 is dovetailed into the ending of FEAR 1. The opening level is rocked by a large explosion that marked the conclusion of FEAR 1. This is a nice touch. It ties the second game into the first one without beating you over the head with it.
You play Sgt. Beckett. A generic military soldier type of hero who's back story is largely forgettable. Your squad mates are equally a "cut and paste" kind of group. You are tasked with arresting a CEO of an evil corporation bent on bringing clone troopers to a military near you. The operation goes south when the explosion, I mentioned earlier, interrupts you. Oh, and those clone troopers are lead by psychic commanders that have a tendency to go psycho. This is due to their mother being locked in a dark room when she was a kid and suffered all kinds of physical and mental abuses at the hands of her father who turned her into a supernatural force to be reckoned with. And when the evil company tried to pull the plug on the whole operation, Alma (the aforementioned girl) breaks out to exact her revenge on the world.
This back story is the set up for FEAR 2. The game takes a little bit of time to get going. But, once it does, I found it interesting enough to see it through to the end. I like the "horror" elements the designers worked into the story. Seeing fleeting glimpses of a ghostly Alma walking across your vision can raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Speaking of Alma... The story never explains why Alma is a child in the first game and a woman in the sequel. I mean the sequel happens immediately after the first game, so why is she so much older? Kind of a major hole in the back story. But, I'm not going to lose any sleep over this.
As the story plays out, you encounter ghosts and flesh eating ghouls. The ghosts are not really enemies but the restless souls of the victims of Alma's rage or the explosion at the beginning of the story. The ghouls are rejects of the clone trooper program. Nice touches to the storyline. And to be sure you do not miss this, there are various documents littering the ground to give you little nuggets of information about the story. All of this doesn't save FEAR 2 from all the usual short fallings of the FPS genre.
The single player campaign is woefully short. And the multiplayer half is more of an afterthought. The graphics look a bit dated. I mean FEAR 2 looks like a FPS from around 2001 running on a high end PC. Complete with all the bump mapping and pixelization you would expect from a game from that year. This dated look pulls down the entire presentation. Plus, you are bound to get nauseated from the overly exaggerated bobbing back and forth motion of your character's head when he walks. I wish there was some way of turning this off.
The vehicle sequences are sorely lacking as well. Mostly due to you piloting a mech that is capable of raining down death on the multiple waves of enemies. It is a little pedestrian of a plot device to stretch out the story.
Some of the more specialized weapons of the game give you little reason to use them once you realize how useful your ability to slow down time really is. It is that "bullet time ability" that helps you survive against overwhelming odds. And some of those specialized weapons just are not fun to use in bullet time. Plus, ammo for these weapons is very limited.
In the end, FEAR 2 is a worthwhile rental at best. I enjoyed it as such. I doubt many people would find it worth $60. The story is what carries the game. Not the graphics or the depth of game play. There are so many better FPS titles available on the Playstation 3 (like Killzone 2 or Call of Duty 4) that are worth your time.
I prefer to rate games on a scale of 10. So FEAR 2 earns a 7.5 out of 10 in my book.

    YOU....WILL....JUMP4
I have not written many reviews and do not consider myself as creative as other writers. However, I felt it necessary to take the time to write this to encourage others just how good this game is. This game has variety, different environments and looks and boy...is...it...creepy. I guarentee you will jump. The story line will keep you intrigued (I do not want to offer any spoilers. Would not recommend this game to players under the age of 17 as the language can be extreme and there are a couple scenes where there is brief nudity. The game can be played as a "run and gun" by using the slow motion "juice" but most often you will find it more rewarding to not use the slow motion and to think out your next move. I would urge you to buy this, especially at the price that it can be purchased for.

    Scary, dark, and claustrophobic. Awesome!5
This game works quite well. Lots of levels are spent inside hallways of schools, hospitals, office buildings, and other such cramped locations. Sounds fine, but I found myself longing for some open space to play in. When you finally make it outside and you actually breathe a sigh of relief, I'd consider that to be a sign of a pretty good game.

This game is not one to play in a crowded room, or anywhere where there are lights on. Wait till it's dark and crank it up. While not as scary as Dead Space, I certainly had a few jumps during the playthrough of this one. Creepy scenery, eerie circumstances, sweet weapons, cool enemies, and an interesting story make this a blast to play.

At the time of this writing, I've still not played any multiplayer, so I can't comment on that. But the singleplayer is great fun.

All details aside though, this is pretty standard fare for an FPS. First-person perspective shooting. Lots of weapons and lots of enemies. Linear in structure. PSN Trophies that take quite a while if you want to get a platinum in everything.

For such a reasonable price, and even if you haven't played the first F.E.A.R., this is a quality purchase that is worth at _least_ one playthrough.

    Flawed but Fantastic5
    Flawed but Fantastic ...

Was eagerly anticipating this game as it promised to deliver over 50 Ferraris to drive on fantastic race tracks around the world.

    Positives:
+ Realistic Handling. I own a Ferrari 348 myself and felt the handling was very similar.
    + Nicely detailed tracks
+ Decent (but not world class graphics)
+ Challenging to drive - there is a learning curve for all newbies but the rewards are worth it. Turn off all the assists and the car becomes easier to drive.

    Negatives:
    - Didn't provide the 50 cars that were promised - future download content were scratched
    - System 3 sucks
    - Lots of niggling bugs - some of which were addressed in a support pack. But there are a lot of other faults/improvements that are still needed
    - AI drives unnecessarily aggressively - if they drove like that in real life, they would be blackflagged immediately and their racing license revoked. Hint: Overtake them on the outside.
    - Car sounds are not that great
    - Cannot save games / poor replays
    - Small customer base - makes it a moot point to get future updates / upgrades.

Despite the many negatives, it is a must-have game if you like realistic driving simulations. Don't buy it if you want an arcade game - you will get bored in two days.

    I didn't enjoy2
I ve more than 30 ps3 games. Ferrari Challenge is the worst one ... This game is a shame for Ferrari I gave it to one of my friend he dont like it as well... If you are looking for a real racing game go for
    GranTrismo5

I had to pay to beta test this game2
Ferrari Challenge promised a lot but delivered very, very little and early owners of this game amounted to nothing more than beta testers who had to pay for the privilege.

I'll start with the good, the driving physics are rather accurate and the track selection is lengthy and diverse, even if some of the circuits are a bit inaccurate. The inclusion such world class circuits like VIR and Spa was especially welcome.

Despite gritty and low rez graphics, the game has a low and inconsistent frame rate and is rife with popup. It completely fails in conferring a sense of speed, an attribute any racing game should posses.

Opponent AI is equally lackluster, consisting of nothing else but remorseless blocking that allows cars ahead to escape. The behavior exhibited by the AI would be promptly black flagged in any amateur or professional race series on earth.

If that were not enough, the game as delivered, featured completely broken online racing that was fixed for MONTHS. In addition, PROMISED DLC has been scuttled because of "licensing issues", but curiously these issues don't prevent the DLC from being rolled into a new game from System 3, called "Supercar Challenge".

Don't buy this game. Don't reward these developers' lies and deceit with you hard earned gaming dollar. Gran Turismo 5 prologue, while not without issues, offers a MUCH better racing experience and MUCH better value for your dollar.

    Great for Mario Kart Wii5
I purchased this for my 11 year old daughter, as she wanted a "real" racing wheel with pedals for the Wii. It was easy to set up (just plug it in) and, it worked right away. After launching Mario Kart Wii with the wii remote, the Thrustmaster wheel functions like an additional wii remote for choosing characters and races. The pedals work for acceleration and braking, and, I find that the racing wheel has a nice feel to it. It can be set to one of two sensitivity settings.
I also found a sheet showing the button presets for Mario Kart on the Thrustmater support website. For instance, the brake pedal also functions as a drift button. My daughter loves it. She races with my 14 year old son, who uses the Wii wheel that came with the game. But they both prefer using the Thrustmaster racing wheel, as it is easier to use and more "fun," than the standard Wii wheel.

NOTE: Check the Thrustmaster website: go to "Tech Support--Downloads--Game Settings" for the list of compatible games for this wheel.

Good racing wheel. Great racing wheel for the price.4
I ordered this last week for playing GRID on my PS3. When I took it out of the box, I was a little worried because the wheel is so small compared to one I had for my Xbox. But after clamping it to a table and firing up GRID, my worries are gone. The choice I had was between this wheel for $30 or a Logitech wheel for $150. I'm not sure what a $150 wheel does for you but this one works well with my PS3, will work with my Wii, and makes playing GRID much more fun.

    Not really compatible with Wii.2
I purchased this wheel cuz the description stated it worked with all game platforms and I have a Wii. When I received it and read the instructions this wheel only will work with downloaded virtual games for the Wii with use of the classic controller. Needless to say I sent it back.

Just when you thought it couldn't get better...5
I played this on the Xbox a while ago and thought this was an excellent game and there wasn't much room for improvement.

So far I've played this for a few hours and must say this game is DEFINATELY worth playing again. New levels, new bosses, new weapons, new scenery. But you probably knew all this already.

The biggest difference, at least to me, is the controls. They were excellent on Xbox, but this is WAY better. NG Black had a few frustrating jump sequences because camera would sometimes lose the perspective of the place you needed to see. This seems like it's been imporved a great deal. Because of tighter controls, action feels much faster, but at the same time easily manageable.

16:9 screen format is also a big improvement, since now it's not as easy for enemies to sneak up on you.

Wether you played this before or you are new to NG, or for that matter PS3 - this is the one to have. It's a difficult and lenghty game, but it's one of the best games I ever played (and I've played many since the original Atari)

    Awesome action fest!5
I loved the first three Ninja Gaidens on Nintendo Entertainment System. They were challenging, frustrating, but the games were fantastic. It is not surprising then that Tecmo managed to transform their 2D franchise to 3D in an exceptional manner.

This game is a remake of Ninja Gaiden Black from Xbox (thus Sigma, meaning the sum). I never played the Xbox version, but after playing this game for the first few hours, I wondered why I waited so long. The game looks fantastic, running 1080p at 60 FPS (all the graphics have been overhauled). The control feels really tight, and making nimble moves feels natural. The learning curve may be steep for some, but the result is quite worth it. I was not a proficient ninja for the first few chapters of the game, but now that I have somewhat mastered Ryu's moves, I am able to quickly dispatch a group of enemies with grace and ease, with their heads rolling, literally.

The game contains additional playable character Rachel, as well as additional weapons over the Xbox version; dual sword wielding is awesome. You can unlock additional costumes, hair styles, and difficulties.

If you feel competitive, the game allows you to upload your scores to Playstation Network to compare with players around the world. You can see how many times they died, the time it took them to complete the game, and how many ninpos (special moves) were used.

If you love action, adventure, and challenge, this game is for you.

Pretty fun but crippled by basic problems3
Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a baptism of fire, to say the least. It throws you into a flurry of shurikens and blades the instant you begin to play, and the difficulty level does not waver throughout the game at all. For someone like me who crunches through games like a fiend, I was hoping that Ninja Gaiden Sigma would put up a fight.

This game was fun, but tough. You will definitely get the snot kicked out of you many times but that makes the victory that much more rewarding. This game is not for causal gamers or people who get frustrated easily. You will repeat a lot of fights either because of respawns or deaths.

My number one qualm about this game is the camera. It is one of the worst cameras I have ever had the displeasure of maneuvering in a game. Camera failures will disable your ability to focus on the proper targets, see around corners, and be sneaky...like a ninja is supposed to be. Camera adjustments are possible, but the controls are unresponsive as the game tries to focus on things for you and fails miserably.

Your opponents are supposed to cause your death, not a camera. This is the type of game where every last drop of health counts, and when your camera doesn't enable you to target any of the four enemies that are pumping you full of lead, your death will come quickly.

I expected more out of Tecmo for this port. The crappy camera is what made the fun factor 4/5 rather than a perfect 5. The game's challenge actually adds to the fun. It takes effort to win. But again, this fundamental flaw puts a damper on what the game could and should have been.

    Best FIFA Ever5
I've personally purchased every FIFA game since 2001 and played the game since it first appeared on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. That's over a decade of yearly iterations plus the "World Cup" and "UEFA" editions. I know what I'm talking about.

FIFA 08 on the PS3 is the best FIFA game ever to be released on a Sony system. The graphics and music are top-notch, but that's standard for the game's last few years.

Where the game breaks new ground is in the physics department. Never have professional athletes been honoured with such life-like avatars. Every kick, deak and tackle looks and more importantly feels like the real thing. The new shooting mechanics are inspired as are the ball physics. Combined these two components push the realism through the roof.

The list of impressive attributes continues: loading times are nearly non-existent, Create-a-player is more robust, the arena interface (also found in EA's NBA LIVE 08) is simple and fun and the addition of custom formations is a long awaited boon.

Finally the return of "The Lounge", the tweaking of "Manager Mode" and the addition of the "Be-A-Pro Mode"(which allows the user to control only one player during the match) ups the replay value exponentially.

FIFA 08 is stellar - really an awesome buy for anyone looking for a great sports game. My only complaint involves the lacklustre commentary, which despite being broad in scope is less than enthusiastic.

That small flaw aside, EA has a real winner here. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

    Fair effort4
I'm a football video gaming freak and have been for a decade now. With regards to this game, i feel it is one of the best fifa games i've ever played. visuals, audio and detail is brilliant. however, most of us want to get INTO the game only to an extent, and what matters most is the gameplay- viz passing, shooting, making moves. I completely echo review "JB"'s comments. Antipation is key, but even if you know what to do have pulled off the button combination for attack/defend, the player responsiveness just is not as sharp and timely as you would find in a pro evolution soccer game. I know, now you must be thinking I am biased towards the latter, but I've played fifa games for a decade now and I know what a fantastic football game should be like. In this latest version, like JB said, when you defend you can't do much apart from run alongside the attacker and hope for the best, and attacking, again because you have to anticipate so far in advance it makes it difficult to put any classy move together. Fun to play in doubles or more though, since controller sensitivity and player response frustrations are mitigated somewhat. overall still a fun game, and probably the best until evo 2008 comes out. if fifa can just tweak the current game play to make the players slightly more responsive, there would be no competition. alas, another year to be spent in hope

We're Making Progress... But We're Not Quite There Yet...4
This is the best FIFA Soccer game yet - the graphics are wonderful on a 1080p DLP TV and the presentation, licensing, is top notch. Gameplay is much improved, although I agree with several previous reviewers on two very important points:

    1. When defending, all you can really do is run alongside the ball handler and try to pressure him off of the ball. That's it. Timing a tackle can also work, but if you miss, you're in odd-man situation and the AI does a fairly good job at working a shot.
    2. Trying to execute a 'trick' move is very hard to do, must be anticipated well in advance, and even then, there is little success. Even in extreme situations (i.e. C Ronaldo vs. any Derby County defender - get the point).

Also, the AI seems very proficient at corner kicks - much more proficient then you will find you will be able to be. But enough criticism. The game is fun, has very little framerate issues (you'll see a slight hesitation rarely), has great stadiums & kits and plays well online. This is a big step for this franchise and sets the stage for a (potentially) very strong, PES-challenging game platform. In fact, FIFA '08 is strong enough to make those of us fluent in the PES/Winning Eleven series to start nit-picking that game (mainly, the lack of licensing and amount of editing needed to be done to present the teams & kits properly). What's important at the end of the day, however, is the play on the pitch, and FIFA has made big strides. It's not quite as smooth and responsive as PES, but the gap is narrowing and "Seabass" (the producer of PES 2008) should be on DEFCOM alert 4.

    Purchase with confidence - enjoy!
