True, historically this is an unlikely match up, but that was before Hail to the Chimp. Hail to the Chimp is a no holds barred mini-game battleground pitting player vs. player with the new leadership of the animal kingdom on the line. Filled with fast action accommodating up to four players, good-natured non-stop political humor and satirical commentary on the mass media’s infatuation with infotainment, it’s the perfect party game for every political animal.

Hit the Campaign Trail
The long rule of the Lion has finally come to an end and a rambunctious group of candidates are chomping at the bit to replace him. Some have plans for democratic rule, while others are all too willing to replace the big cat’s monarchical tyranny with their own benevolent despotism. The only certainty is that the strong will survive.

Candidates, Clams and Chaos
Hail to the Chimp features ten playable characters from every corner of the animal kingdom. Each has their own strengths, weaknesses, political platforms and agendas, but there is more to winning this contest than kissing babies. The game consists of a series of politically themed mini-games set in various environments in which players scramble to collect as many clams (votes) as possible. The more clams a player has the more damage your character can dish out and take. Just a few of the available character are:

	Name: Ptolemy the Hippo Home: Egypt Bio: Ptolemy lives in a world where the 1970's never stopped. With unique style and charisma by the truckload, this happenin' Hippo wants to return Hippos (more directly, himself) to the top of the Animal Kingdom.
	Name: Toshiro the Octopus Home: Japan Bio: A samurai octopus, Toshiro's logic is simple – most of the world is water and therefore ocean-based animals are the dominant life form. A highly trained warrior and scholar, Toshiro's campaign is as elegant as it is ruthless.
	Name: Santo the armadillo Home: New Mexico, US Bio: Born in the deserts of New Mexico, Santo was a painter before he joined the campaign. He thinks politicians and artists have a lot in common - prima donnas and shysters, the lot of them - and he's here to keep it real.
	Name: Murgatroyd the Jellyfish Home: Unknown Bio: Not much is known about Murgatroyd as her garbled pronouncements are completely indecipherable. This is a solid campaign strategy, as many animals assume her views are similar to their own. Mysterious, perplexing and lovable, Murgatroyd could be the underdog of this race.
	Name: Crackers the Monkey Home: Congo Bio: Crackers was the right-hand monkey to the King Lion before he was ousted from the throne. Rumor has it that Crackers' whole campaign is a ruse designed to restore his old boss to the throne, ensuring a cushy lifestyle for his favorite monkey.

Although this is the animal kingdom's first attempt at democracy it doesn't take these candidates long to figure out that the goal is to win at all costs. With that in mind players are free go at it alone or team up with competitors to gang up on the rest of the field. Each combination of characters creates a different special move that unless stopped, can decimate opponents, dashing presidential hopes and making an election year debate look like a tea party.

The GRR News Network
Taking political humor and satire to new levels, at least for a video game, Hail to the Chimp also features its own news coverage, the GRR News Network. Hosted by anchor Woodchuck Chumley, not only does GRR keep track of player standings in the election and broadcast candidates victory speeches direct from the podium, it also holds a wealth of additional game content regarding the candidates and their platforms. This mix of TV smears ads, talk show segments and commercials are in part available immediately on entry into the game and unlockable as the game progresses, providing relentless humor and hours worth of additional play time to a game destined to become a hit in every state whether red or blue.

No fun for single players
My husband brought me this game because he thought it looked cute and like something I might enjoy on a rainy afternoon.

The story sounded promising: become the president of the first animal republic (after the lion king has been dethroned because of some scandal or other) by securing the votes of - clams, of all things. During the presidential campaign you are sent into arenas to compete against the other candidates.

I played two challenges and then I got bored. In the first arena, the objective was to run around and collect the most clams, in the second, to run around, collect, and hold on to the largest number of clams for two minutes. During the game, you had to - literally - beat your competitors to your shelled voters, or you could team up with a competitor against the others.

Unfortunately, the challenges were over very quickly, because before I had figured out where I was supposed to go and what I needed to do, my computer-generated opponents had already won.

This may be fun in a multi-player setting against other like-skilled (or -unskilled) human beings, but as a single player, I got frustrated and bored after approx. 40 minutes. There was just nothing there to draw me in. The graphics were barely average and the arenas small, crowded, and confusing.
