NCAA GameBreaker 2001

Welcome to the last step before the professionals: the NCAA Division 1-A. All 115 teams are represented, as are the stages of their living place. Total Game Control function allows you to switch from lead or their receptors in underthrow to react to the defensive strategy. In career mode, play as a coach, coordinator or assistant and work your way up the ladder to better jobs in big schools. And perhaps best of all, you can take your best people over to the professionals you download your copy of NFL Gameday 2001.

Also in the NCAA Gamebreaker 2001 are 64 teams that made the history of the NCAA and bowl games in 21 seasons. Up to eight players can compete with the Multi Tap accessories sold separately. And with the recent retirement Keith Jackson on board for the play-by-play, you know it'll be fun. Whoa, Nelly!

    Amazon.com Review
Talk about complete! NCAA GameBreaker features all 115 division 1-A teams and 64 of the best college-football dynasty teams in the history of the NCAA. This version's Total Control Mode allows you to fine-tune your passing game or send a running back for a short pass out of the backfield to throw off the defense. Add a newly modified career mode, and this game has all the trimmings that might give this title a pass to a big bowl game in January.

The motion capture has been redone, and the on-field tackling and blocking animations are crisp and clean looking. The animations keep up with the gameplay, and the control is the best part of this game.

Unfortunately, the sound is terrible. If a running back is gonna get tackled, then it should at least sound like a running back is getting tackled. Not to mention the crowd noise--it's more of a hiss than a roar. Keith Jackson is back doing the commentary this year. But like Madden's voice-overs on the Nintendo 64, Jackson has very little to actually say, and his phrases get repetitious fast.

GameBreakeris ultimately a solid NCAA pigskin simulation that fans should enjoy. In any case, it's still a lot cheaper than sending the kids to college! --Todd Mowatt

    Pros:

  • Modified career mode
  • Great control

    Cons:
  • Terrible sound effects
  • Keith Jackson's small repertoire of phrases quickly becomes repetitive

    The best5
Gamebreaker is year in and year out the best college football game, and with the changes that 989 made this year, they will reign again. If you like head to head action and playing against freinds, this si the game for you. 2001 will also feature the poular career mode, where you coach a program to glory or defeat!

    A solid game.4
NCAA Gamebreaker 2001 is a solid game, and it is much improved over last year's title. I found this to be more fun than EA's rehash, and I really like playing it. Casual fans will probably enjoy NFL GAMEDAY 2001 more, but being a college football fan, I really enjoyed what is here.

    Good, But EA is Better3
This is a good game if you can't get a hold of EA Sports College Football 2001. The AI of the PSX is great so that you cannot continually beat teams and the career mode is fun where you jump from school to school just like a real coach. The problems are that you actually fumble the ball when you are running by yourself and the recruiting is a joke. Plus tackling is much too hard. They treat every running back like he is Suan Alexander.
